Gang Starr: The iconic Guru returns with DJ Premiere for a posthumous 'Finishem'

Pure audio fire? Long live the late Guru and hitmaker DJ Premier keeps the Gang Starr brand more than alive with a posthumous ‘Finishem’ classic. What better way to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the unforgettable One Of The Best Yet album.

Gang Starr delivers with ‘Finishem’ for the masses

It’s pure fire and demands ample repeat consideration. Preemo delivers a posthumous tune you can’t help but listen to over and over.

To commemorate and celebrate the fifth-anniversary of One Of The Best Yet, Gang Starr is back with a new single, “FINISHEM”; which is now available at all DSP’s.

One of the most timeless, artful, and influential duos ever, DJ Premier and Guru’s enduring legacy continues to inspire fans old and new.  When Gang Starr released their historic album, One Of The Best Yet, on 11.1.19 (their first album in sixteen years), it was met with overwhelming critical praise and fan response.  Skylines across the world were ablaze with predominantly displayed Gang Starr billboards; including Times Square and London.  The adulation and reaction for One Of The Best Yet was immediate, palpable and overwhelming!  Funkmaster Flex dropped bombs and dedicated an entire hour long-tribute set before he introduced "Family & Loyalty" featuring J. Cole (who called appearing on the first Gang Starr single in nearly two decades “an honor to be a part of” and “a classic”).  One Of The Best Yet made a swift and immediate impact, with multiple trending topics on social media and rocketing up the charts to become the #2 album in the country.

“As One Of The Best Yet was approaching the five-year anniversary mark, that milestone moved me to create a new track to match the occasion.  The album is special on so many different levels; what it meant to me, Guru’s family, and the fans, it warranted something new to honor the occasion” DJ Premier affirmed.   “I started going through files, looking for something that stood out and fit; and as soon as I heard Guru’s hook “now I’m about to finishem, my rep alone could diminish’em” I knew that was it and went to work crafting a beat for it.  I had some unused Antman Wonder files that I decided to check out, and one of the sounds hit me emotionally from the very first note.  I knew this was the one to shape the song.  The fans always appreciate more Gang Starr—and this one is for them.”
