Ode Broham & Lefty Van Lowe: The signature sound is back-back with 'Blowing Mines'
Need an Ode Broham re-up? Say less. He’s back-back like a boomerang, as he would say, and delivering anthems in the form of tunes like ‘Blowing Mines’ and it’s clear - he’s in his rap bag.
A little crooning and ample bars for your listening pleasures. It’s repeat-worthy. Tap in.
The holidays are over and Ode Broham’s back to work with his new single, “Blowing Mines”. The track finds the Canadian (and newly American) emcee fed up with the annoyances of overzealous individuals and rappers in particular. “DMing me, begging for engagement,” Ode laments “Couldn’t be me.” The statement is made amidst a chorus pleading “b**** relax cus you’re blowing mines”.
“Blowing Mines” exchanges i need a vacation EP’s warm and summery vibe for something much more in-line with Winter on the East coast. If the previous soundscape from Ode’s i need a vacation EP sounded like sabbatical to a warm Caribbean island then “Blowing Mines” feels like a cold but cozy ski trip where you keep warm with hot cocoa by a fireplace in a mountain lodge. That vibe is, yet again, provided by Drum Fu’s production on the track.
The phrase “blowing mines” is slang for “annoying me” or “ruining my mood” and is native to New York City where Ode moved as a teenager and first met, feature, Lefty Van Lowe. Originally intended as a solo track, “Blowing Mines” seemed like a perfect opportunity to welcome back Lefty after a brief hiatus following his In Time We Trust EP. The two have collaborated numerous times in the past but not recently since 2014’s “Where Do We Go” on Lefty’s Back 2 HER Vol. 1 back when Ode Broham still went by Capital Ode.
“Blowing Mines” is the lead single for the deluxe version of Ode’s i need a vacation EP and is due for widespread digital release on March 26th, 2024.
