TV Shows: 'Euphoria' tops list of most searched TV show makeup looks of '23

Let’s keep it 100 - it’s tough to watch an insanely fire series and not want to mimic the exact flex. So of course there’s a must-see line-up of top shows sparking the most searches for makeup looks in 2023 - spoiler, my girl Zendaya’s ‘Euphoria’ tops the list.

It’s pretty mind-blowing and needless to say, huge props to the folks over at ARKA for coming up with the deets. Tap in.

A recent study conducted by experts at ARKA, has revealed the most popular TV show makeup looks since the beginning of 2023. The study involved gathering and analyzing Google search data starting from January 2023 to June 2023. The primary goal of the study was to find out which are the top searched makeup looks from trending TV shows and how they impact makeup choices in 2023.

The data involves results from daring styles of "Euphoria" to the timeless charm of "F.R.I.E.N.D.S" and the mysterious allure of Tim Burton's "Wednesday".

1. Euphoria - 3,310,350 total searches

The HBO hit series "Euphoria" is leading the charts with a remarkable 3.3 million searches since the start of the year, averaging 662,070 searches per month. Since its second season premiered in January 2022, the show's extravagant, bold, and glittery makeup looks have taken the internet by storm. 

According to Google trends, searches for "glitter eyeshadow" and "glitter eyeliner" have simultaneously increased along with “Euphoria glitter” term at 22% and 23% respectively. Considering the potential buying intent of  the search terms, Euphoria continues to have a significant impact on glittery makeup purchase in 2023 as far as it was widely used in the make up looks of most of the characters.

The global search volume for “Euphoria Makeup” was at its peak on February 2022, when the second season ended. 


2. F.R.I.E.N.D.S - 427,100 total searches

Taking the second spot is the beloved sitcom "F.R.I.E.N.D.S," with a total of 427,100 searches and maintains a monthly search volume of 85,420. This timeless show's enduring popularity indicates that the simple makeup trends from the 90s still have a significant influence on viewers. People are actively searching for makeup styles associated with the show's characters, such as "friends makeup," "rachel makeup," "phoebe buffay makeup," and "monica geller makeup."

3. Emily in Paris - 390,250 total searches

Coming in third is Netflix's "Emily in Paris," with 390,250 total searches and a monthly search volume of 78,050. The show's combination of Parisian chic and modern American styles has obviously had a huge impact on the modern audience. People are searching “emily in paris makeup”, “lily collins emily in paris makeup”, “emily in paris eye shadow” and other related terms.

4. Wednesday - 276,150 total searches

"Wednesday," Tim Burton's recent addition to the Addams Family universe, takes the fourth spot with a total of 276,150 searches and a monthly search volume of 55,230. The show's captivating atmosphere and intriguing characters have sparked a new trend on the internet. From unique dance trends inspired by Lady Gaga's "Bloody Mary" to the gothic makeup styles of Jenna Ortega, "Wednesday" has captured the audience's interest.

5. Stranger Things - 204,050 total searches

Taking the fifth spot is the much-loved series "Stranger Things." Despite its 80s setting and young cast, the show's makeup styles have been searched for a total of 204,050 times since the beginning of 2023, with a monthly average of 40,810 searches. These numbers serve as further evidence that 80s fashion and style remain consistently popular and on-trend.

6. Bridgerton - 166,550 total searches

Ranking sixth on the list is the period drama sensation "Bridgerton" with a total of 166,550 searches and a monthly search volume of 33,310. The show's captivating portrayal of romantic Regency-era makeup has gained significant interest, highlighting that period dramas still suggest beauty aesthetics today.

7. Sex and the City - 134,150 total searches

At the seventh position, the popular "Sex and the City" has a total of 134,150 searches with a monthly volume of 26,830. The individualistic and iconic makeup looks of its four leading ladies have undoubtedly remained a source of inspiration even after all these years. People continue to search for the main characters’ makeup looks like “carrie bradshaw makeup”, “carrie bradshaw lipstick” and etc.

8. The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina - 42,100 total searches

Claiming the eighth spot is "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" with a total of 42,100 searches and a monthly volume of 8,420. The show's modern-gothic makeup looks offer an interesting mix of classic and edgy elements, captivating audiences with their unique appeal.

9. Pretty Little Liars - 37,800 total searches

Coming close in ninth position is "Pretty Little Liars," with a total of 37,800 searches and a monthly volume of 7,560. The show's makeup looks were always tailored to the characters' personalities and were a fun favorite back in the 2010s. The continued search numbers indicate that this iconic show is still trending and capturing audience attention.

10. The Vampire Diaries - 22,800 total searches

Taking the tenth spot is "The Vampire Diaries," receiving a total of 22,800 searches and a monthly volume of 4,560. The show's wide range of characters  and simple but interesting makeup styles are still a fan favorite to this day. The show's fashion choices embraced various trends, including bohemian, edgy, and classic styles, making it appealing to a wide range of viewers.

11. Gossip Girl - 12,900 total searches

"Gossip Girl" closes the list with the lowest search volume of 12,900 in total and a monthly 2,580.​​ Despite its position in 2023's search rankings, "Gossip Girl" continues to shape and impact the ever-changing landscape of the fashion and beauty industry. The show's fashionable makeup trends, such as bold red lips and flawless smoky eyes, have made their way into the real-world fashion scene, inspiring numerous beauty enthusiasts and trendsetters.
