Arkansas rapper Young Quez has just shared his new long-awaited project Still the Realist, along with an accompanying music video for “Trap Or Not”. Although Young Quez has been steadily grinding in the Hip-Hop scene since 2018, Still the Realist serves as just his fourth full-length project – and his first in nearly four years. Along his journey, Young Quez has been working to solidify his spot as a dynamic storyteller through a string of dominant singles, including a grand collaboration with Chicago rapper G Herbo last year, as well as a relentless slew of authoritative singles released this year leading up to the all-encompassing release of Still the Realist.
After using the first six months of 2023 to bring his momentum up a notch by continuously flexing his cannon of street tales, his vitalizing lyrics and imaginative flows, Young Quez has carved out his own lane and become a clear stand-out member to the flourishing Arkansas Hip-Hop scene. With the release of Still the Realist, Young Quez is expanding upon his distinct street-heavy sound while flexing his knack for tight-knit bar work and awe-inspiring flexes.
As a proud member of Arkansas’s dynamic Hip-Hop scene, which is only two hours away from the fiery Memphis scene – Young Quez has been able to pull influence from their double-time flows & emphasis on staunchly-delivered punchlines while simultaneously creating a hard-hitting sound that he’s able to claim as uniquely his own. Backed by his impressive string of singles that includes “Rockstar”, “Run It Up”, “My City”, “Real Rap”, “Chemist” & “Keep It 1Hunnit”, Young Quez’s fourth full-length release Still the Realist marks the release of a new era for the Arkansas stand-out. In a promo video posted to his Instagram, Young Quez details the meaning of the album's title – amidst all of the adversity, Quez has always stayed true to himself and accepts situations for what they are, preparing to deal with them accordingly.
In the process, he's remained the realist. “Bitch, my life a movie, you want in it, gotta run it up / Before I dropped on YouTube, I was trappin’, runnin’ numbers up”, Quez raps on the intro “Trap Or Not”, alluding to his success and the work he’s put in to achieve it in the same breath. While tracks like “Chemist” & “1-2” find Quez using their knocking beats to flex his unwavering braggadocio, a track like “Night with Dmack” finds him experimenting with his melodic flows and reflecting on his past. Across its 16 tracks, Still the Realist showcases Young Quez’s continuous emphasis on assertive cadences, steady flows & captivating charisma, as he elevates his spirited energy over an array of production choices in the process. By cementing himself as a dependable source of candid storytelling & reflections, Young Quez has his signature Southern flair on full display and is using his platform to put his state on the map with the release of Still the Realist.
