Movies: Here's the 4 most anticipated flicks of late summer from 'Strays' to 'Equalizer 3'

Okay - so I might be capping with the ‘most’ anticipated and boiling down to just four flicks, but all in all, these four flicks have a lot of major appeal and are pretty much Date Night-approved must-see movies. From the comedy-filled Strays to a thrill-seeking Gran Turismo, you better believe it’s time to get pumped about the last handful of must-see movies before Labor Day Weekend goals kick off.

1. STRAYS (Universal) - August 18

They say a dog is a man’s best friend, but what if the man is a total dirtbag? In that case, it might be time for some sweet revenge, doggy style. When Reggie (Will Ferrell), a naïve, relentlessly optimistic Border Terrier, is abandoned on the mean city streets by his lowlife owner, Doug (Will Forte), Reggie is certain that his beloved owner would never leave him on purpose. But once Reggie falls in with a fast-talking, foul-mouthed Boston Terrier named Bug (Oscar® winner Jamie Foxx), Reggie finally realizes he was in a toxic relationship and begins to see Doug for the heartless sleazeball that he is.

2. GRAN TURISMO: BASED ON A TRUE STORY (Sony) - August 25

Based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver. From gamer to professional racer, Jann’s story of defying expectations, overcoming odds, achieving his dreams is inspirational and a case study for believing in yourself. The film stars David Harbour, Archie Madekwe and Djimon Hounsou.

3.
THE EQUALIZER 3 (Sony) - September 1

Get ready for Denzel Washington in his latest collaboration with iconic director Antoine Fuqua. Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he’s done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia.

4. THE NUN 2 (WARNER BROS.) - September 8, 2023

1956 – France. A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit follows Sister Irene as she once again comes face-to-face with Valak, the demon nun. Taissa Farmiga (The Nun) returns as Sister Irene, joined by Jonas Bloquet (The Nun), Storm Reid (“The Last of Us”), Anna Popplewell (The Chronicles of Narnia trilogy) and Bonnie Aarons (reprising her role from The Nun), surrounded by an ensemble cast of international talent.
