50 Cent's new 'Hip Hop Homicides' series is an automatic must-see

Homicide cases for Date Night? Rest assured, you haven’t seen a series like with what 50 Cent has presented courtesy of his new ‘Hip Hop Homicides’ show especially with the premiere episode focusing on the tragic death of Pop Smoke.

Homicide cases for Date Night? Rest assured, you haven’t seen a series like with what 50 Cent has presented courtesy of his new ‘Hip Hop Homicides’ show especially with the premiere episode focusing on the tragic death of Pop Smoke.

Having covered the shocking murder of Smoke back in 2020, I remember how much attention was placed on whether there was a set-up, if social media was the culprit or a handful of other theories - so many it really could drive you crazy trying to get justice for Smoke in how he had his life taken from him.

My goodness - this new series? Incredible. While a tough topic to discuss, looking into the rise of Pop Smoke and having everyone from his mom and woman he was last with moments before dying to his longtime best friend and manager plus a flurry of investigators? It’s safe to say host Van Lathan comes more than correct on this series.

To be completely honest? Of course I was skeptical. Looking back at the murder of Pop Smoke and for what seems like a ratings game? I was initially uncomfortable but within moments of the premiere episode starting up, you immediately come to realize this is not only heartfelt but really a courtesy to the hip-hop community and culture.

The one thing really putting a damper onto the culture is endless theories on everything. Whether someone was involved with this or that or if the government had something to do with how something is happening. It’s all thoughts thrown onto the Internet and bought by thousands.

‘Hip Hop Homicides’ actually does an amazing job at providing clarity and doing as much as it can to address the speculation and rumors.

And let’s be clear - there’s a budget involved here. Van Lathan doesn’t just stay in one spot - he’s in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles and places in-between in pursuit of understanding why Pop Smoke died and he does it in such a fashion where he talks to different cultures and people - from the streets to celebrities to law enforcement. There’s no stone left unturned.

No spoilers involved but needless to say, after watching the premiere episode as the series prepares to reach the masses on Thursday, November 3 - there’s so much value in this program.

What’s most impressive is the composure Van Lathan has throughout the process, as well. He really doesn’t settle for anything but as close to the truth as he can get to.

If your bae is into hip-hop and of course investigative shows, this new weTV series is an absolute must-watch for a Date Night when you want to stay in and watch some thought-provoking content.

Absolutely must-see.

Verdict: Date Night
