3 reasons Kaitlyn Dever's 'ROSALINE' is your Date Night go-to on Hulu

Because time is money - quite literally, let’s jump right into the top three reasons this new Hulu Original is your go-to for Date Night.

Oh - I should mention in the headline the movie completely justifies having Hulu as a top premium subscription must-have, too. The new Rosaline movie? It’s everything you want - classic romantic story by William Shakespeare, modern day twist and ample quirky moments you can appreciate from start to finish. Because time is money - quite literally, let’s jump right into the top three reasons this new Hulu Original - slated to premiere Friday, October 14 - is your go-to for Date Night.

1. Balling on a budget

Let’s not beat around the bush - popcorn prices are still as crazy as they were 10 years ago and with everyone feeling comfortable enough to jam-pack theaters for the cheesiest to the classiest of movies, knowing you’re paying under $20 for a monthly subscription to Hulu and getting original content like Rosaline? The monthly price is cheaper than what you’d pay just for gas or let alone a medium soda.

So before even getting into how much fun the movie is, just realize the price point alone and comfort of having your bae with you in the comfort of your own home with a solid flick? No-brainer.

2. It’s Hamilton with a twist of 1996’s Romeo + Juliet

Quite honestly? I loved the modern twist for the classic Romeo and Juliet story with the acting, modern day phrasing - let’s be honest, how often did we hear the word ‘Fuck’ in the classics of old and recent? Zip-zero? Absolutely amazing and youthful feel - and when I say youthful, I do mean as in the TikTok age of teens and 20-something-year-olds draped in castles and knights gear.

It really feels like Soulja Boy could have made an appearance at some point. Kaitlyn Dever really delivers with her performance as Rosaline and gives the behind the scenes look at the ‘true’ story of Romeo and Juliet in such a fun and quirky way you can’t help but laugh along with.

Now to be completely honest - there is going to be an age situation here. While I am a proud 30-plus movie goer, your typical audience gravitating toward this flick is going to be the teenager and 20’s through possibly - and I do mean just ‘possibly’ early 30’s crowds. The humor and jokes are along the lines of what you felt from movies like Neighbors - a little too silly to feel the urge to laugh at ‘every’ joke or moment, but grown up enough to still push forward and keep a sense of quality attached to the movie.

3. The entire cast slaps

It’s more than Kaitlyn Dever in Rosaline. Whether you’re talking about the stunning Isabela Merced - who plays Juliet - or the Man Crush Monday type in Kyle Allen - who plays Romeo - or we get a little older with Minnie Driver and Bradley Whitford, everyone plays a solid part. Some of the funniest lines come from minimal supporting cast members like Nico Hiraga and his WWE Riddle-type personality or even Sean Teale holding it down as Dario. It’s a great range of actors and actresses all making the movie work.

I’ll still mention the movie feels geared toward the TikTok era and audience but provides a refreshing overall feel and vibe to the legendary love tragedy.

Hulu continues to deliver and with continual quality content as we’ve witnessed with Hellraiser and Prey in recent weeks, it’s safe to say the streaming giant is making it tough out here for the competition - notably Netflix and HBO Max.

Date Night or Nahhh… verdict: Date Night-approved
