WWE 2K23: My date nights are slowly turning into double features with gaming and WWE SmackDown!
Keeping it 100? WWE is the top tier brand - no matter how much I geek out over All Elite Wrestling or even the New Japan Pro Wrestling and even Impact Wrestling - the bread and butter will always be WWE - it’s like when people thought the XFL could shake up the NFL - so when it’s all said and done, the best and only go-to wrestling game available right now centers on the WWE 2K franchise and notably WWE 2K23.
I’m hooked.
Yup, I said it. How much do I love the recently released WWE 2K23? How about to the point I am making serious pitches to my wrestling-fanatic girlfriends to link up for an outing at a local spot for Friday Night ‘SmackDown!’ - you know, some wings, drinks (Coca-Cola on ice, please) and a bunch of screaming fanatics and what better way to cap off the 10-midnight time slot than heading back home and kicking back on the Burrow couch (or bedroom, I do have a PlayStation 5 in each location) than reliving those matches in WWE 2K23?
I seriously love it. A massive salute to the amazing people over at 2K and notably you-know-who (not sure if you’re comfortable with the name-drop, A!) for coming through with my super late request for a review copy.
Weeks and weeks later (sorry, really, I just couldn’t pull myself away from gaming online, with baes and in the career modes) - the official Attack The Culture review has arrived.
As someone who picked up WWE 2K22 at the start of this year, I was impressed but keeping it 100? I was a bit all over the place, not really understanding the difference in seasons, online modes and everything in-between but my goodness, if having the time to prepare for this go-around didn’t have me practically waiting for the bell to ding before getting into every feature!
I’m going to cut right to the chase - the bread and butter of what WWE 2K23 has to offer, for me at least, is the amazing DLC content. If you want to be a serious publisher at this point, you have to understand you can’t just drop a solid title and call it quits until next year. WWE 2K23 has done an excellent job in putting out seasonal packs loaded with new stars, fresh moves and even incorporating the NXT stars like Andre Chase and Nathan Frazer to the mix.
We’ve become accustomed to being treated nicely in the gaming world but when it’s perfectly executed in the form of something like the Bad News U Pack or just going all-out with a Season Pass, the adventures are non-stop and the appreciation is through the roof.
I’m a sucker for graphics - linking up with bae following a ‘SmackDown’ broadcast or even one of those Saturday night PPV outings, there’s really no better way to laugh it up than grabbing the sticks and playing as who you just saw on the screen.
Now I’m a little bit spoiled because let’s just be honest, a bar setting isn't always the most romantic or fun place for a boo’d up moment, so there are times when a large delicious pizza from my guys at Victor’s Pizzeria in Teaneck, New Jersey has come to the rescue and we’ve watched Monday Night Raw on the lower TV and gamed on my top TV with WWE 2K23 - it’s just one of the perks of being a media head and covering multiple things at once - trust me, the iPad gets its fair wear and tear, too.
Date Night is really branching out from the traditional movies and TV shows.
Gaming goals now gets lumped into the conversation and whether bae can’t get enough of the Thirst Trap The Rock can serve up or you need to heat up the room with a female face-off - the possibilities are endless.
WWE 2K23 is officially available on on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
