How do you introduce yourself, Chanel?
Chanel Camryn: Well, everyone calls me the ‘Quiver Queen.’ So I kind of just come in with that. Like, straight up. I’m Chanel Camryn, the Quiver Queen. [laughs]
I gotcha. I gotcha. I saw that on IG. I don’t want to kind of start the conversation like, ‘Why do they call you Quiver Queen,’ because I think it’s kind of self-explanatory but I feel like you should kind of brag about it. You’re not the Quiver Princess. You’re specifically Quiver Queen. So I think if you’re going to have that title, you’re going to have to brag about it for a second.
Chanel Camryn: [laughs] When I first got in, I had no idea the way that I came was odd or not common. I also didn’t understand that all girls didn’t come when they had sex every time. I was just having these seizure-like orgasms with all these male talents and they were freaking out like, ‘Is this girl OK?’ I have had a few male talents call cut because they thought I was having a seizure.
My fans, first they started with ‘Human Vibrator.’ But that didn’t really stick. And then there were a few other names that circulated but then I had fans start calling me the Quiver Queen and that one stuck. I was like, ‘I’m keeping that one.’ [laughs]
Let’s kind of dig into your Florida roots and then obviously around your teenage years, 13, 14, you pack up and go to Alaska. First and foremost, do you claim Florida more or Alaska more? Alaska seems a little bit more exciting.
Chanel Camryn: It’s kind of half and half really. So I don’t know what to claim. I’m technically from Florida but I got into porn from Alaska. So I’m both. I moved there literally when I was 13 and I was halfway through my growing up and then I left when I was 20. So I spent a decent amount of time in each area.
My life in Florida was very different from the life I had in Alaska, obviously. I feel like the biggest part besides the weather and the environment and the culture difference between the states was my place in life. When I lived in Florida, I was poor. I was very dirt poor.
My family was very ghetto. It was a lot of dangerous shit happening. I lived in a very bad area. I would have drive-by shootings all the time and there were gangs in the area. It was just normal for me. [laughs]
So I’m from Duval County and most people who are familiar [laughs] - my mom’s motivation for moving us was my sister was growing up, she had just been born and was going to school. We didn’t want to raise her in that environment and I can remember countless times I almost got kidnapped or school fights and gang activity. Just things that were very dangerous. I’m surprised I survived.
A lot of the kids I grew up with are no longer here with us. So to leave and see everybody I grew up with kind of go down the wrong path, I’m very thankful that my mom was able to get me to Alaska.
It was a very hard struggle. We had nothing. She literally took a job, flew up there, worked for three or four months and would send us money and we all moved there. It wasn’t easy. When we got there, we lived in a motel, one room, the four of us.
I went to high school like that. I rode the bus everyday. Also, we moved to a very, I wouldn't say remote because there is a road but it was a very rural part of Alaska. The town was a mile long and the population was probably under 3,000 and that’s about a 30 mile radius. It was a very small town and my graduating class was about 30 kids.
I got bullied being the new kid who lives in the motel.
I had this question a little bit later in the conversation but you kind of answered it. I wanted to say, looking at your catalogue, 2022, 2023, I was going to ask, where does the work grind come from? Where does all that hustle and grind come from? You kind of answered it. You are working so hard because you know what you’ve been through and it’s interesting because you’ll see people who kind of get that spark that you’ve had and it kind of goes down a little bit.
You’ve been on a non-stop, like, ‘I’m in this culture. I’m in this genre. I’m not slowing down at all.’
Chanel Camryn: It really goes back to my work ethic and my mom. She worked multiple jobs when I was a kid and my dad had health issues and had trouble holding down a job. I just watched my mom. It gave me the motivation to be like, I might not have been given the greatest deck of cards but I’m sure going to turn them into the deck that I want.
Before I got into porn, I was the same way. When I got into nursing, I used to work seven days a week. I would work 12 to 15, 16-hour shifts. I always had multiple jobs. Getting into porn, it was like, ‘This is a lot easier than working 12 hours on my feet taking care of patients.’ Of course I’m going to work fucking hard.
I’m giving myself five or six years of just hammering things out in the industry before I decide to kind of rest a little bit and take a step back.
I think I’ll always be working, I just think I’ll definitely slow down, just not yet.
Are there a couple things TeamSkeet’s doing that you wished other networks you work with would apply to what they’re doing?
Chanel Camryn: For them, they really pay attention to the performer. For instance, when they created my scenes, they really paid attention to what I was good at and what I’m able to do and I could tell that they put that into my scenes.
I’ve done scenes for other companies that were supposed to be about me and it didn’t feel like it was screaming Chanel, it just felt like Chanel in a role.
TeamSkeet makes content that feels like it’s curated for me to showcase me. That was a very good feeling. I think with TeamSkeet, they do a very good job at connecting with the performers, keeping in touch with the performers, I’ve had a close relationship with a lot of the people over there.
From the social media manager to the people doing merch, some of the people at the company, they’re very good, they’re very communities and anything I’ve ever asked for, they’ve always been on top of.
I just think that’s where they do really well. They pay attention to us whereas some other companies don’t as much necessarily.
For people who are just getting put onto you like, ‘Chanel Camryn, who is this?’ Do you prefer people to start with one or two specific scenes on TeamSkeet, or is it like pick and choose any scene?
Chanel Camryn: Oh my God. I honestly don’t think there’s any scene I did for TeamSkeet that I didn’t like. [laughs] So you’re pretty much safe to start with whatever. I know they have a lot of other sister sites so it’s based on your subscription depends on what you’ll see.
I’ve pretty much shot for all of their sites, so if you want to start, just pick something you like, a genre you like and I’m sure you can find me in that category.
