If you love Sanaa Lathan, then of course you keep tabs on everything she’s doing including her new On The Come Up flick which hits theaters and Paramount+ everywhere today. In celebration of the rollout, Lathan and the team have linked for a full-fledged HBCU screenings tour.

The fun went down at multiple spots across the nation including Georgia’s legendary Spelman and Washington DC’s Howard University. Peep the details and check out the snapshots - courtesy of Getty Images for Paramount+ - from the events.

Paramount+ kicked off their HBCU multi-market On The Come Up tour last night where over 300 students participated in exclusive screenings of the film before premiering this Friday, September 23, 2022. Last night, On The Come Up screenings simultaneously took place at Spelman, TSU (Tennessee State University) and Howard. Tonight, students at Dillard and Hampton University will be screening the movie. Breakout star of the film, Jamila C. Gray and the award-winning Author, Angie Thomas participated in a surprise Q&A at Spelman College moderated by Streetz 94.5 ATL Radio Personality, MiAsia Symone. After the panel, Paramount+ brought out a special birthday surprise where the students sang and got to celebrate author, Angie Thomas on her birthday.

ON THE COME UP is the story of Bri, a gifted 16-year-old rapper, who attempts to take the battle rap scene by storm in order to lift up her family and do right by the legacy of her father – a local hip hop legend whose career was cut short by gang violence. But when her first hit song goes viral for all the wrong reasons, she finds herself torn between the authenticity that got her this far and the false persona that the industry wants to impose upon her.
