BMW: Here's the Top 10 safest auto brands to drive this summer

In all fairness, is there any bigger shocker than Tesla not making the list? Yikes. It could all be up for debate but seeing my favorite premium vehicle, a BMW of course, making the Top 10? Pure exhaling, of course. This line-up courtesy of The Fitch Law Firm is all types of mind-blowing.

It’s all about safety and the Top 10 has everyone from Mercedes-Benz and Ford to Dodge and Acura listed.

New research has revealed the safest auto brands in the US, with RAM coming out on top.

The study by Ohio personal injury lawyers The Fitch Law Firm analyzed the latest data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to find which car brands are safest on American roads, based on how many times each brand was involved in an accident where at least one person suffered fatal injuries, and each auto’s percentage of passenger deaths.

It found that RAM came out on top of the list. The study showed that only 18.97%, or 233, of the 1,234 people involved in fatal accidents of the pickup truck brand suffered fatal injuries, over ten percentage points lower than any other brand. RAM was formed in 2010 as a spin-off from Dodge.

Coming in second place is the trucks and utility vehicles brand GMC. From the latest data, 837 of the 2,730 people in 2021 travelling in a GMC died when involved in a fatal accident, a percentage of 30.82%. The GMC Sierra is the brand's best-selling model currently in the US.

Taking third place on the list is Dodge. In 2021, 3,808 people were involved in Dodge accidents where someone died, with 1,232, or 32.74%, of people in Dodge cars suffering fatal injuries. The Dodge Charger is the most sold model from the brand.

Fourth place goes to Jeep. The study found there to be 2,589 people traveling in a Jeep in 2021 who were involved in a fatal accident, and 874, or 34.07% of these victims, were in the Keep. Sales numbers show that the Grand Cherokee has been the brand’s best-seller for quite some time.

Rounding out the top five is Acura. There were 708 deaths from accidents involving an Acura in 2021, and 239 of these victims were traveling in an Acura, a percentage of 34.19%. The MDX and RDX have been the company’s top-selling models.

Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson for The Fitch Law Firm said: “It may be good news to some to see this list full of historically American brands, particularly because these are official stats, but it’s also interesting to see the only other brands are German. It’s also important to know that many of these brands specialize in larger vehicles, that while they may be bigger on fuel consumption, statistically can offer safer experiences on the road.”
