Omah Lay brings Black History Month full circle with NPR Tiny Desk performance

Kicking off another chapter in style, Afro-fusion star Omah Lay just delivered a standout performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk in honor of Black History Month. This also notably marked his debut on the series.

Joined by a full live band complete with background singers, he served up a scorching performance of tracks including his current single “soso” as well as fan favorite“understand.” As part of NPR’s Black History Month programming slate, he joined a stacked lineup of R&B, soul, jazz, gospel, rock, and hip-hop luminaries, concluding the four-week run with his inimitable take on Afrobeats.

Last year, he unveiled his monumental debut album, Boy Alone. Stream the Nigerian star’s critically acclaimed Boy Alone HERE via Sire Records. He recently shared the music video for “soso” which has already amassed 18 million YouTube views and counting.

Boy Alone has quietly emerged as an international phenomenon tallying over 943.3 million total streams and was preceded by a hot streak of singles that included “Attention” featuring Justin Bieber, “Woman,” and “Understand” — which garnered attention from The New York TimesHYPEBEASTThe FADERBillboardNME, and more. In recognition of his talent and hard work, Omah Lay was nominated at the 2022 NAACP Image Awards for “Outstanding International Song.”
