Rising 18-year-old singer/rapper Paris Bryant returns today with “Run Around,” a magnetic single that demonstrates the young New Yorker’s knack for colorful, intimate melodies. “Run Around” is available now via Cinematic Music Group/Geffen Records.
Bryant goes hard over the emotional piano chords and booming drums, questioning why a love interest is trying to give him the slip. “You don’t trust me / I don’t trust you either,” he sings with tangible pain. “I’m tired of waiting / I’m so tired of hatred / I’m gonna need a crib that’s vacant.” It’s full of intensely personal pain, but Bryant has a talent for making those moments feel universal—anyone who’s gone through heartbreak will understand where he’s coming from.
“Run Around” was preceded by “Overthinking,” which found the crooner reflecting on both big-money aspirations and damaged romance. With exasperated cries and a fast-paced cadence that matches his racing thoughts, “Overthinking” is as intense as its title suggests. Vivid and emotional, it’s also another sign that Bryant is on his way to big things. Before that, he dropped “Demon Time,” a track with a melodic hook that insists on being repeated. To date, the accompanying video for the song has been viewed almost 150,000 times. That song’s been praised by HotNewHipHop as being a “fun follow-up for Bryant and yet another example of his ability to make catchy tracks.”
Bryant made his official debut when he unloaded “Mad Mad” in May, another track full of rapid-fire flows and quotable flexes. The video for that track has quickly garnered close to 50,000 YouTube views, and the song has earned praise from Triller, which spotlighted him as a featured artist. He’s also gotten recognition from REVOLT, HotNewHipHop, RESPECT, and UPROXX, who listed the track on their “Best New Hip-Hop This Week” roundup. Soon after, he released his second track “Proud of You” featuring fellow New York rapper Jay Gwuapo. With the ability to move from dynamic flows to R&B runs worthy of headlining stages across the country, Paris Bryant continues to prove why he’s one of his city’s rising stars. “Run Around” is another proud declaration from the artist that he’s unafraid to show all the sides of his emotional spectrum.
