Remi Wolf Lands MTV's October Push Artist Crown
All hail to the Wolf - and no, we’re not talking Wall Street. Pop singer Remi Wolf’s grind is starting to really pay off and MTV knows it. The iconic brand has crowned the West Coast crooner with its October Global Push Artist salute.
Peep her performing “Sexy Villain” and “Street You Live On” plus her interview talking about penning fire tunes, her go-to playlist and decoding songs. More details about the achievement below.
MTV names Remi Wolf as its featured Global PUSH Artist for the month of October. Formerly a 10-year Olympic skier, Remi carried over much of that determination and zeal into her singing and songwriting at the age of 17. She opens up about what makes her version of the modern-pop musical genre unique, highlighting her creativity and originality as a singer, producer and composer. The California-native shares her unique songwriting process and what it was like to create music with one of her favorite artists, Ethan Gruska. Remi explains how it was never on her radar to write an entire album (her debut full-length album Juno drops on October 15th), but that she’s incredibly eager for the world to hear her music nonetheless.
In case you are on the constant grind and can’t wait the entire clip, check out some key quotes from the Q&A.
On the beginning of her singing career:
“I knew that I wanted to sing. I loved doing it. So I went to the USC Thornton School of Music, in Southern California, Los Angeles. But I think that the true learning I experienced while at school was when I lived in this house with ten people and we were all musicians. Every single day we would be talking about music, listening to music, jamming, writing songs together, just being creative together and making art, and I lived there for three years. I think that that was such a crucial part of my education.”
On making the title of her album “Juno”:
“I named the album after my dog who I adopted at the beginning of quarantine, back in March of 2020. I wrote almost the entire record in quarantine, like 11/13 songs were all written during lockdown, and Juno was such a crucial part of my lockdown. He was like literally always next to me, I actually never left him at home alone. So he was in every single session, so I kind of just wanted to pay homage to him and kind of honor him and his presence in the process. He really was critical in the process.”
On her single “Street You Live On”:
“I had just exited a relationship at the time that I had been in for a while. I wrote the song (“Street You Live On”) about avoiding that person. I’d just gotten back into LA and they also lived in LA, and I was just trying to avoid any sort of triggers.”
