Major bragging rights anyone? Turns out rap veteran Xzibit is going big things in 2024 partnering up with UFC icon Conor McGregor’s Greenback Records to deliver a new single to the masses.
While you’ll have to wait a few days for ‘Play This At My Funeral’ to drop, it’s clear X to the Z is back-back with the Notorious McGregor.
Multi-Division UFC world champion, entrepreneur and entertainer Conor McGregor launched Greenback Records in July 2024 announcing his entry to the music business. Hip hop icon & actor Xzibit has now joined the roster at Greenback records alongside rap legends ‘Bone Thugs-N-Harmony”, furthering McGregor’s venture into the hip hop genre.
Xzibit is set to release “Play This At My Funeral”, the first release from his forthcoming album “KINGMAKER” on October 11th 2024, as he begins his partnership with Greenback Records for his first solo studio album in over a decade.
Xzibit’s mainstream breakthrough came courtesy of one of hip-hop's most memorable guest verses. Appearing on Snoop Dogg's atmospheric "B*tch Please", X's brash aggression was a perfect foil to Snoop's established, considered drawl. With an integral assist from X, the single became a hit for Snoop Dogg & X. X's verse clearly impressed the track's producer, the legendary Dr. Dre; He soon offered X a spot on his now legendary Up In Smoke tour. Joining a bill that included Dre, Snoop, Ice Cube, Eminem.
X was introduced to thousands of thrilled concertgoers in arenas and stadiums night after night. "That tour was a turning point in my career," acknowledges X. "I was rocking capacity crowds in arenas across the world, and everyone was feeling what I brought to the table."
Forging a strong artistic bond with Dre coming off the Up In Smoke tour, Xzibit got the production giant to oversee his next solo album, the Platinum release ‘Restless’, and the rest is history. Off the back of Restless, an iconic catalogue began to form including some legendary collaborations with Eminem, Nate Dogg, Bust Rhymes, Snoop Dogg and many more, including a verse on Dr Dre’s “Whats The Difference”.
With his vibrant personality showcased through his music, Hollywood inevitably began to show interest in the ascending MC. "I was open to the offers," explains X, "Because they allowed people to see the other sides of me. My raps will tear your head off, but I'm not always the aggressive dude from music videos." His stint as the host of MTV's overwhelmingly successful Pimp My Ride led to X accepting an invitation to host the networks prestigious European Music Awards. It also prompted numerous notable film roles, including a starring role in 2006's sports drama Gridiron Gang. Continuing to hone his acting skills, X can recently be seen alongside Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes in the critically-acclaimed Bad Lieutenant.
As well as his illustrious big screen appearances Xzibit has featured in cultural TV staples such as Family Guy, CSI Miami, Hawaii 5-0, MTV Cribs, American Dad & many more, as well as the great success recently enjoyed in his role as Shyne Johnson in the hit television series Empire.
Xzibit, today a household name across the world, with millions of albums sold and a legendary career as one of the most respected rappers worldwide, has finally returned to the studio after a decade hiatus. Xzibit has partnered with entertainment giant Conor McGregor for the release of his long awaited 8th studio album “Kingmaker” via McGregor’s new record label “Greenback Records“.
Kingmaker is the culmination of Xzibit's genre leading experience and a look back at the 12 years since his 2012 album "Napalm".
Executive produced by Xzibit, the album has brought his wealth of his experience as one of the most important voices in hip hop to light, with mature and insightful writing showing considerable growth as an artist and a human while remaining true to the artist he has always been.
Greenback Records’ owner, "The Notorious" Conor McGregor, is a 36-year-old renowned mixed martial artist and UFC world champion known for his charismatic persona and knockout power.
