As if you needed more reasons to dig into EA Sports’ Madden NFL 25, right? Turns out the team keeps coming through with big gems like a look into its Superstar mode and showing the direct connection to EA Sports College Football 25.

It’s all in the notes and massive salutes to the Madden NFL 25 team sharing these fire blog updates.

Hey Madden fans, welcome back to Gridiron Notes!

Today, we’re excited to take you on a Deep Dive of all of the new features and updates coming to the Superstar experience for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation®5, and PC. How will you forge your path to NFL stardom?

Avatar

Your Superstar journey starts when you decide which type of player you want to be – your physical avatar as well as your archetype.

New to Superstar in Madden NFL 25 are preset archetypes. The choice is yours! Different archetypes provide different maximum ratings.

For example, you start off with your ratings at 60, meaning they cap out at 84. As such, the tier of ability associated with that rating caps out at bronze.

You can spend up to three creation points on any given rating. So as a QB, you could spend three creation points and bump that 60 throw power up to a starting base value of 75. Now, the max throw power rating is a 99, and the associated ability (Arm Talent) can be upgraded to gold. All of this information is presented to you at the Archetype screen (Current Rating, Max Potential, Creation Points, Ability Tiers).

Additionally, you have to choose between spending creation points on core skills (Throw power, Accuracy, Throw under pressure, etc.) versus spending them on physical skills (Speed, Acceleration, Strength, etc.). Physical skills don't have abilities associated with them, but they do significantly impact how you move and interact on the field. How will you strike a balance between spending enough on physical skills to suit your playstyle, while also developing your must-have abilities?

We heard you about more customization for physical appearance, too! We’ve added more faces, hair styles and facial hair options. And yes, Superstar fans… Tattoos are here!

The return of EA SPORTS College Football also marks the return of a classic feature within the Madden franchise. Player Import will let you select any Road to Glory avatar to use in Superstar mode! Your collegiate legacy will follow you into the pros as the game recognizes, and reacts to, your affiliation. From college freshman to NFL GOAT, you can once again play through the entire journey of a football star. If you import a character from College Football 25’s Road to Glory, you get additional creation points beyond the base cap of 15.

With the EA Sports College Football 25 doing insane numbers, it’s only right to keep the excitement brewing with Madden 25 coming up next. Especially with the college fanatics losing their minds over the new title, it’s only right to have super high expectations for the latest Madden drop and all signs are pointing to greatness.

From checking out all the nitty gritty deets with the Madden 25 gameplay to getting a breakdown on BOOM Tech - it’s all types of reasons to keep faith and hope alive in a potential must-own Madden release. Key words coming courtesy of Team EA Sports Madden 25:

Today, we have Clint Oldenburg here representing the American Football Gameplay Team to discuss all the new innovations and updates coming this season.

Here in our Orlando studio, we know what’s most important to players and that’s a deep, authentic experience delivering control on the sticks. Players will have more control than ever before in Madden NFL 25 with this year’s feature-set including Physics-Based Tackling powered by BOOM Tech, Signature Styles, new ball carrier, catching and pre-play mechanics, and a focus on football fundamentals within blocking, playbooks, and more. All gameplay features and updates covered here will be available on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

First, let's take a look at our Gameplay Deep Dive video that has just been released.

BOOM Tech

Players have made it clear that they prefer agency and control in gameplay, rather than outcomes that feel scripted or pre-determined. When we introduced our FieldSENSE animation-branching system two seasons ago, meeting that demand was the exact goal. This year, that vision is being accelerated even more with the introduction of BOOM Tech: our next gameplay innovation, over 2 years in the making, which is an injection of real-world physics into that animation-branching technology; and aptly named after Coach Madden’s most famous catchphrase - BOOM!

Players will feel the new tackling system during any one-on-one tackle, where physics will determine a wide variety of dynamic outcomes based on the weight, speed, momentum, squareness of the hit, and player ratings, while keeping players in full control.

The features that make up the BOOM Tech package are:

  • Physics-Based Tackles: Hit Sticks, Cut Sticks, Trucks, Stiff-Arms and Dive Tackles

  • All-new Physics-Driven Ball carrier balance and recovery system

  • Reloaded Hit Stick mechanic to make landing that perfect-hit stick feel rewarding and more skill-based
