That Mexican OT: The 'Johnny Dang' music video is definitely a Tuesday vibe
It’s Tuesday but turning up goals like it’s a Friday? You bet. Texas’ That Mexican OT teams up with Paul Wall and Drodi for their hard-hitting ‘Johnny Dang’ single but it’s the music video demanding all of the attention.
From getting the Texas jewelry designer Johnny Dang pulling through in the video to the entire team turning up, it’s all Lone Star State turn up heat. Happy post-Memorial Day!
With his dexterous flow and Texas-sized personality, Bay City's That Mexican OT annihilates instrumentals with a smile on his face. Shining brighter than a chain full of VVS rocks, OT connects with Texas legend Paul Wall and Freeport, TX rapper Drodi for "Johnny Dang," his new video single. The song is a tribute to the famed Texas jeweler Johnny Dang, who makes a cameo appearance in the music video.
Teased on socials earlier this month, the snippet for "Johnny Dang" struck a major chord, racking up over 9.8 million views on TikTok and 2.6 million views on Instagram. Weaving between stabs of staccato synth strings, OT dazzles with his fast-paced flow, unfurling tongue-twisting punchlines that demand to be rewound over and over again: "Pop trunk on a hater while we wavin' goodbye/I'm from Lone Star sippin lean with pecan pie." Drodi–a frequent collaborator on OT's including on the breakout hit "La Cobra"–follows with a barrage of flexes, and Paul Wall takes the anchor spot with a vintage verse, giving his stamp of approval to another diamond-clad Texas rapper.
Directed by D Green Filmz and filmed at Johnny Dang's famed jewelry shop in downtown Houston, the video for "Johnny Dang" is a showcase for OT's eye-popping charisma. Rocking a bejeweled belt, flashing a 100-carat grin, and wearing his signature cowboy hat, That Mexican OT pours Paul Masson cognac with Johnny, shows off his custom slabs with Paul Wall and Drodi, and kicks it with his homies under a Houston highway.
"Johnny Dang" is the latest in a series of colorful videos that have That Mexican OT buzzing in his home state and beyond. Born and raised in Bay City, a small Texas town located 80 miles south of Houston, That Mexican OT built a massive following on social media with his effervescent charm and undeniable rap talent–along with classic Texas rappers and the traditional Mexican tunes favored by his family, OT grew up idolizing the late Harlem legend Big L. The young rapper has over 265k YouTube subscribers, and his videos often soar to multi-million views. Songs like 2022's "Hardest Ese Ever" (11 million YouTube views), "La Cobra" (7.2 million views), and "Kick Doe Click" (5.2 million views), along with his 2022 mixtape Nonsense & Mexican Sh*t, established him as one of the Lone Star State's hottest emcees.
