Lil Pete adjusts his clocks because Time Is Money

Time is flying by but as long as it’s compensated for, there’s no issue for Lil Pete. The hip-hop artist steps up to bless the world with the visual treatment to his ‘Time Is Money’ anthem.

The song alone slaps but it’s the music video which blows you away the most. From flexing on his car’s rooftop to counting stacks, it’s all about the luxury and funds for LP. It’s directed by 20KVisuals and highlights MikeMadeThe808s’ production.

And in case you’re looking to learn more about Lil Pete, peep his entire career rundown.

Often praised as a relic of the old San Francisco, Lil Pete has deep ties to the city’s historic Fillmore district but his sound is undeniably of-the-moment. Establishing himself as one of California’s most streamed independent artists, his nonchalant, sing-song rhymes and melodic beats hand-picked from YouTube, seem to satisfy the algorithms as every video quickly amasses view counts in the millions with little to no marketing. After many months with releases few and far between, Lil Pete set the stage for his return with videos for his singles “12345,” “Can’t Stop Me” and “Letter 2 The Streets.”

With the snow-filled music video for “Can’t Stop Me,” Lil Pete separated himself from his peers and with “Letter 2 The Streets,” Lil Pete offered context to the album title, going into depth on how it’s deeper than rap. When the pandemic hit, Lil Pete was in the midst of a breakout moment. His debut album, Hardaway, was putting up numbers, he had earned cosigns from West Coast heavyweights like YG and DJ Mustard, and was poised to kick off a tour alongside G Herbo and King Von. After building a dedicated following off of independent mixtapes like 4EverFocused and I Made A Promise, Lil Pete was primed for the limelight. Hardaway boasted his biggest collaborations to date with features from Money Man, Dej Loaf and Babyface Ray, and star producers CashMoneyAP, Yung Tago and CardoGotWings.

The FADER premiered the album with the headline “Lil Pete is San Francisco rap’s next great hope,” and Hypebeast praised Pete as “a young artist with main-stage, Billboard-chart-ready starpower.” Then the lockdown started and everything was put on hold. Lil Pete took this time to fall back and recalibrate, spending recent years recording consistently and working to perfect his next body of work. Despite releasing less music, Lil Pete continued to run up tens of millions of views on Youtube with songs like “Never Understand Me,” “In This Life,” and “Impatient Freestyle,” combining for more than 50 million views. Although it's been years since his last album, fans have remained active in Pete's comments, expressing their loyalty and appreciation for his quality over quantity approach.
