South Carolina-based singer-songwriter, artist, and multi-hyphenate Contour (aka Khari Lucas) returns with his new single “Repossess” feat. Chicago-based rapper and producer Semiratruth. The track arrives on the heels of his latest release, “Hearing Voices,” and the news that his new album Onwards!is due October 7th via Errol and Alex Rita’s Touching Bass.
Coinciding with the single is a self-directed visual that beautifully reflects Contour’s interest in cinema and continues to reflect his poetic portrayal of the world around him. The black and white video sets the scene for Semiratruth to speak on survival and love amidst a heart-rending soul and hip-hop backdrop. The forthcoming full-length album Onwards! is an evocative, twelve-track journey through Black art past and contemporary with soul, electronics, and archival material at its core.
“The record exists as a bridge in conversation between today’s artists and art of the past which offered potential ways to navigate the world that we’re in; personally or on a larger scale,” says Contour. Khari describes his interests as multifaceted; his practice includes filmmaker, musician, producer, score composer, and radio programmer. Contour, the musical alias he started in 2014, is the vessel for Khari’s musical research, songwriting, and production.
