This situation is crazy. DJ Drewski from Hot 97 says he’s not playing anymore drill music or any music with rappers dissing each other anymore. This comes after two things. Of course Nas Blixky got shot in the head in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. He was rushed to the hospital, he’s still alive and then also Tdott Woo got shot and killed in Canarsie, in Brooklyn and both of these things happened the day after each other.
Brooklyn is in shambles right now. Brooklyn is hurting and it’s crazy. DJ Drewski is one of the biggest deejays in New York City right now and the Tri-State area, Connecticut and New Jersey and in New York and he’s on. Hot 97 and he’s always in the club. He’s like, ‘Yo, I ain’t playing no more drill music or anymore music with rappers dissing each other.’
He actually went onto his Insta Story and said, ‘If you make drill music, there are a lot of drills songs without dissing your opps or smoking on your opps. Step up your pen game and your creativity. No reason why every week someone is getting locked up or killed. I can’t change the the world but I can stop supporting this non-sense. I’ll admit it, I’m a fan of drill records and I supported it from the very beginning but it’s only getting worse. SMH. I’m not supporting no more diss/gang music. If you’re dissing each other in the songs, don’t even send it to me! I don’t care if the artist sends it, the label sends it, your big homie sends it. I will not support or play anymore diss/gang records on the radio! We’re losing too many young men and women to the streets.’
Some people applauded Drewski. They said, ‘Yes, you are being responsible and you’re a very influential deejay,’ - and then other people are like, ‘Hell no, that’s bullshit. What are you trying to do? Are you trying to censor these artists? Are you trying to stop them from expressing themselves and talking about what’s going on with them in the streets? Who are you to say they can’t rap about this?’
So everybody is split down the middle. My opinion, personally, is Drewski can’t change the world but if he decides to stop playing drill music, I guess it can’t hurt. I guess. I don’t know.
At the end of the day, at least it could stop some violence. Maybe? I don’t know.
