The song dropped a few weeks ago and goes hard so it’s no surprise it was a green light to have a ‘Green Light’ music video, too. Peep the details and tap in.
The track, produced by Grammy-winner Nes (prod. for Bryson Tiller, Cardi B) and Grammy-nominated 13x platinum producer Ambezza (prod. for Drake, Lil Baby, Young Thug, and more), follows his recently dropped EP project I AM WHO I AM, which sees its first anniversary coming this weekend on Saturday, 11/11, alongside the album’s Chopped & Screwed iteration with GRAMMY-nominated producer and fellow Texas legend, OG Ron C. The album features Johnny’s massively successful breakout single “On God” which earned the attention and public cosign from musical icons Drake and Ye.
Directed by OShotYou, the music video follows themes of living true to oneself as the video opens to Johnny being scolded by a woman whom he simply can’t be bothered by as he nonchalantly dances expressing that he “ain’t takin sh*t back.” He’s then presented with the infamous red pill / blue pill dilemma by Obama referencing The Matrix Trilogy, ultimately choosing the red pill, meaning he prefers to live life knowing its fullest truths rather than live a lie.
Representing Beaumont, Texas, Johnny Cocoa continues to make his mark as the next rising artist to break out of the south with a unique sound that blends intricate rap styles, a soulful R&B flow, and reggae tones - all inspired by his deep childhood roots singing in church and icons such as James Brown, Russ, Kendrick Lamar and more. Championing his community, Johnny centers his music to commemorate Black power, unity, self-love and progress. Johnny continues to carve out his own lane in the music industry with the promise of becoming the world's next breakthrough sound.
Off the heels of his recent contributions to the Humble Soles mixtape release dropped earlier this year in collaboration with Roc Nation and PUMA, Johnny will be joining mixtape collaborators Huey V, Reuben Vincent, RJAE, among others for a cross-country tour to ring in the new year and continue the project’s commemoration of hip hop’s 50th anniversary.
