Rising R&B songstress, Rosemarie, has teamed up with award winning rapper and fellow Los Angeles artist Roddy Ricch for new song, “Is It Real” paired with an equally emotive music video. The song is a powerful duet that plays to Rosemarie’s strength in storytelling and melody work while Roddy’s impassioned vocal work rounds out the song. Speaking on the meaning behind the song, Rosie shares:
“The making of “Is It Real” with Roddy was a special and serendipitous experience. Our artistry as individuals is boundless — and to me, this song is a beautiful intersection of them both. Collaborating with such a giant who I am inspired by, definitely made me want to push my pen, creativity and vocal production further…and I’m extremely proud of what we made.” — Rosemarie
Directed by Ashley Kember, the music video intrigues as it evolves — showcasing the pair in a sprawling Los Angeles home trading verse for verse of their love story… or did they?
The collaborative effort appears on Rosemarie’s Rock Paper Scissors Recut, a deluxe EP, which came out in tandem with the release of “Is It Real” single and music video. Alongside the Roddy Ricch assisted track, Rosemarie also shares new tracks “Unfortunate,” “Same Page” and worked with rising Los Angeles, CA rapper Kalan.FrFr on “Drop Me.” Rock Paper Scissors EP was first released earlier this year which bore goosebump inducing “Breaking,” (the acoustic performance of which has over a million views on Youtube) as well as, English-Spanish, reggaeton inspired track “Aprovecha.” Listen to the eclectic body of work via:
Need to learn more about Rosemarie? Curious about her deep-rooted connection to the music Culture? Say less.
Raised in a Dominican and Puerto Rican household, her father a DJ and her late mother a singer, Rosemarie learned the beauty and power of music at a young age. An avid journal writer growing up, Rosemarie used written words to express her emotions which nurtured a natural songwriting instinct. Encouraged to post live covers and join in singing challenges, Rosemarie caught the ear of Bird of Bird Vision Entertainment who signed her to Interscope Records and released a string of modern R&B gems like “03 Love” featuring NOLA legend Juvenile and the sultry full-throated jam “Henny Talk'' followed. The tracks went on to appear on her label debut EP, Sinnergy (2021), which landed on multiple best R&B picks that week including Billboard and Okayplayer and caught the attention of R&B Queen herself, Alicia Keys who cosigned the rising artist for Keys Soulcare. With her songwriting serving as a diary into the hearts of the dreamers, Rosemarie treats soul music as a sacred space.
Earlier this year, Rosemarie released her sophomore EP, Rock Paper Scissors (2023), seamlessly blending her arresting vocals and emotive lyricism on songs like “Fool’s Gold,” “Breaking,” including a first, English-Spanish, reggaeton inspired track “Aprovecha.” Her ability to pen evocative music that withstand the test of time (and arresting creative visuals) has anointed the Los Angeles native as Complex’ 2023 “R&B Artist to Watch” and landed her a Target holiday campaign where together with GRAMMY(r) winning artist Ryan Tedder reimagined Faith Evan’s 1998 classic “Love Like This'' in both English and Spanish. This proceeded Rosie’s next collab moment of the year where she joined forces with award winning rapper Roddy Ricch to pen “Is It Real” — a stunning duet rich in melody and songwriting. A huge year already, Rosemarie intends to stay on the radar with live performances and more music that stretches the boundaries of R&B and childhood influences of hip hop, reggaeton and more.
