Astrokidjay feels pressure of making a Rihanna song or starring as Zendaya's boyfriend in next Spider-Man movie

It’s a celebration these days for Toronto’s Astrokidjay. The hip-hop artist is grinding out the final weeks of December and coming through with ample audio heat courtesy of his newly released God Bless The Mafia (Side A) studio album.

The project is packed with ample repeat value and music videos to take things to a cinematic level. To geek out over the album even more, Jay chops it up with Attack The Culture to dish on everything from why he took a mafia approach to the album’s concept and his hard-hitting collaborations to his low-key love for cinnamon pancakes with a side of spaghetti and why Rihanna and Zendaya could be on the lookout for him in the Hollywood scene sooner than later.

Check out some of the interview highlights and keep scrolling to watch nearly 20 minutes of signature interactions.

Give me some emotion. What is the state of mind? You’re no rookie to putting out new projects but with this one, it’s your baby right now.

Astrokidjay: I’m just turned up right now. I’m excited to see what people are going to think about it. I worked on the project for like five months. I worked really hard on it. I feel like it’s different from everything else I put out. The sounds on there. The production.

I went on beats I usually wouldn’t go on. I’m touching certain topics I usually don’t speak on. So, I’m just happy to see what my fans are going think of it.

Where are you looking for the most feedback? Of course we know you’re big on the IG Story. You only have two IG posts and I feel like those are going to be Vanish Mode really soon. I know you like to keep the IG clean. You’ve got the IG Story. You obviously got the YouTube feedback. There’s other platforms. Where do you get the most feedback for a big releases like God Bless The Mafia (Side A)?

Astrokidjay: I would say Instagram honestly. My friends will personally message me. I try to reply to everybody. People usually just message me through Instagram and I’ll see the comments and interactions. I usually can tell if something is getting a lot of traction they’re rocking with it.

Twitter, too. I get a lot of feedback. Even on the street. Like On Road, I’ll hear from a couple of supporters and they’ll let me know their feedback like, ‘I really rocked with that tape,’ or ‘I really rocked with that song.’ So it’s really all over.

I’m still waiting on Elon Musk to hit you with that retweet.

Astrokidjay: [laughs] I need that Elon retweet!

Are we really going to call Scarface one of the best video games ever created on the Playstation 2? Does that still hold the title?

Astrokidjay: I’m not even going to lie. Scarface was a tough game but I feel like they copied GTA: San Andreas too much. I feel like Def Jam was the hardest game on PS2. Def Jam for sure.

One of my boys is big into the fighting games and he says he’s yet to play a game as good as Def Jam. You’re playing with your favorite artists.

Astrokidjay: You’re playing with your favorite artists and on the street. You’re beating up rappers you don’t like I guess. You can play as your favorite rapper and turn shit up. I guess Def Jam would be the best game on Playstation 2 for me.

I would say NBA Street too.

If you could either do a collaboration with Rihanna or appear in the next Spider-Man movie, let’s say on-camera you’re Zendaya’s fictional boyfriend. Peter Parker is real tight at you. Which one would you go with? I feel like both of those bring a lot of opportunity. Hollywood and music-wise.

Astrokidjay: That’s a hard one right there. I feel like Rihanna is a dream collaboration for sure. I definitely would take the Rihanna song.

It’s just because I feel like me and her would make something crazy. Something magical. But I would definitely take the opportunity to be in a Marvel movie too. For sure.

Who wouldn’t? I think I want to tap into the acting scene later on. I want to open one of those doors. I want to go into the movie and Hollywood world and get a couple acting scenes.
