Busta Rhymes: The rap veteran delivering new audio fire with 'BLOCKBUSTA' is must-hear

Forget just dropping new singles, it’s a full-fledged release for rap heavyweight Busta Rhymes in 2023. The hip-hop veteran has stepped up and delivered a new BLOCKBUSTA album for the masses.

Busta Rhymes comes through with his new ‘BLOCKBUSTA’ album for the world

It’s nearly 20 tracks deep and loaded with guest features ranging from DaBaby and Coi Leray to Kodak Black and Giggs on the new studio effort from the New York rap veteran.

It’s finally here! 12-time GRAMMY® Award nominee and one of the most influential rappers of all time Busta Rhymes proudly presents his anxiously awaited new full-length offering, BLOCKBUSTA out now via Conglomerate Ent./Epic Records.

Busta notably Executive Produced the album alongside legendary heavyweights, Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, and Swizz Beatz. Locked and loaded with 19 tracks, it pops off as another classic from the celebrated hip-hop juggernaut. Kicking things off in style, he leads a lyrical masterclass on “THE STATEMENT. ”From the jump, he exhales, “While y’all show off, we show up.” He proceeds to “show up” with an incendiary verbal barrage punctuated by a promise, “We grinding so much we ain’t ever complacent.” He maintains this momentum during “REMIND ‘EM” [feat. Quavo]. An introspective Huncho proclaims, “I give this shit up to the Lord, amen,” as Busta stomps all over the siren-laden beat.

Then, there’s “ROBOSHOTTA” [feat. Burna Boy]. The Afrobeats superstar adds another dimension to the album with a stunning appearance. Speaking of other dimensions, “THE RETURN OF MANSA MUSA” [feat. Swizz Beatz & Blackway]” harks back to Michael Jackson’s “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” with an interpolation of its instantly recognizable chant as African percussion underlines Busta’s unpredictable cadence. “HOMAGE” [feat. Kodak Black] remains raw and relentless, while the finale “IF YOU DON’T KNOW NOW YOU KNOW PT. 2” [feat. Big Tigger] marks a full circle moment. As piano twinkles in the background, Busta spits truth, “You gotta go through love and hell, if you want it to turn out right.”

Busta recently dropped the single “OK” [feat. Young Thug]. The latter has already amassed 673K Spotify streams. In addition to plugs from The FADER, That Grape Juice, and more, HotNewHipHop raved, “It really has all the makings of an explosive collaboration.”

It followed the fan-favorite “LUXURY LIFE” featuring Coi Leray, which has garnered millions of streams and over 7.5 million YouTube views on the Tarantino inspired official music video. In addition to plugs from OKAYPLAYERREVOLT, and more, UPROXX raved, “Busta Rhymes and Coi Leray already demonstrated impressive lyrical chemistry when Busta was featured on her hit remix, ‘Players.’ But that chemistry is even more advanced on ‘LUXURY LIFE’.” American Songwriter put it best, “the track sees an even greater chemistry established between the two emcees, six months removed from their first ever collaboration.”

2023 has been a monumental year for Busta as he received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the B.E.T Awards. This accolade celebrated his heralded legacy over the years and his continued impact on the world of entertainment. Accompanied by five of his six children, he graced the awards show and the red carpet, making it a heartwarming, family-centered celebration.
