Chlöe Tells Apple Music About People Comparing Her With Halle

Chlöe Bailey: Honestly, it really pisses me off. I think out of everything, that's the thing that gets under my skin the most when people are comparing us because we are best friends, we're sisters. Sometimes we forget that we're not twins and it's like, don't mess with my blood. Don't mess with her. Sometimes I just have to brush it off because people only see what they want to make up, what they want to believe. And it's like, we shouldn't have to-

Latto: They writing the story for you.

Chlöe Bailey: Yeah. And it's like sometimes I don't need to give off that energy and waste my time explaining something that I know isn't true.

Latto: I feel that 100%. And when I be seeing comments and stuff, I just be wanting to speak for y'all because I just be like, "Leave them alone."

Chlöe Bailey: I know. Sometimes I'm like... And then, see, I'm really sweet and my clap backs aren't the best, so I just need to just learn to just be quiet.

Chlöe Tells Apple Music About DDG and Her Sister Halle

I am so protective of my sister. But seeing how happy she is, I'm happy. You know?

I told him I had my eye on him. I said, "You f*** with her, I'm killing you." I told him that. He knows. But yeah, she happy. She's happy. So as long as she's happy, I'm happy.

Chlöe Tells Apple Music About Being Single and “Ready To Mingle”

Latto: So Miss Chlöe Bailey…

Chlöe Bailey: She's single.

Latto: Is single.

Chlöe Bailey: She's single.

Latto: Ooh, but is she ready to mingle?

Chlöe Bailey: Yes. Yes, I am.

Latto: Oh, you ready to mingle?

Chlöe Bailey: I am.

Chlöe Tells Apple Music About Quavo Rumors

Latto: Tea was that you was talking to Quavo…

Chlöe Bailey: Uh-oh. Well, we doing a movie together.

Latto: But they was saying that y'all was hanging out outside the movie.

Chlöe Bailey: Uh-oh. Well…

Latto: Who said that?

Chlöe Bailey: I don't know.

Latto: Why the hell would you say that?

Chlöe Bailey: I don't know where that came from. Hello?

Latto: Y'all working?

Chlöe Bailey: Yes.

Latto: Flirting and working.

Chlöe Bailey: Working. He's a really nice guy.

Latto: Yeah?

Chlöe Bailey: Yeah, he's nice.

Latto: I mean, he got dreads.

Chlöe Bailey: Yeah.

Latto: You like dreads?

Chlöe Bailey: I like his locks. I like his locks. Yeah, they're nice.

Chlöe Tells Apple Music About Relationships Inspiring Her Writing

It has been helping the music. Because I never went to high school. I was homeschooled for high school. So it's like all the experiences, falling in love, falling out of love, breaking up, making up, all of that, I'm going through it now. For real. So it's really been motivating the lyrics. And when I'm angry, instead of crying or wanting to throw things, I just sit there and I write, and then I'm like, "Okay, shit."

Chlöe Tells Apple Music About the Transition From Kid-Friendly Image To Grown Woman

Chlöe Bailey: A lot of times I'll be confused because the things that I post that people will have the most think pieces about, every other girl be posting the same thing. And I'm like, "Okay, so why is it with me that-"

Latto: Why is it with me, it's a problem?

Chlöe Bailey: Yeah. So I've been sitting there thinking-

Latto: It's cool when they do.

Chlöe Bailey: I know.

Latto: It's a problem when I do it.

Chlöe Bailey: Yes. Or it's like if I do it, it's forced, it's contrived. But I'm like, okay, so I've been sitting there thinking in my head and I've come to the conclusion it's because they're not used to seeing me in that light. They've grown up with my sister and I since we had our little short baby locks on YouTube and everything. But it's like, this has been me. When I perform, that's when I feel the most confident and the most sexy. It's nothing contrived or forced about it. That's just passion coming out.

Latto: Yeah. On God. I relate.

Chlöe Bailey: Honestly, I'm happy people are talking. Sometimes it does get under my skin. I'm like, "Damn it, y'all just don't let me be." You let everybody else be and not me. But it's okay. It's okay…

Chlöe Tells Apple Music About Negative Social Media Comments

I just learned to deal with it. I'm like, "You know what? At least they talking. You're making me trend. It's okay. It's okay." It's like some days, it won't bother me, and some days when I just am not feeling too strong, it'll affect me more than others. And I forgot, I was trending for something and I was scrolling because once you start scrolling you can't stop. And I got to stop that. I sent the tweets to my God-brother, and I'm like, "Look at this." I said, "Is this true?" He called me up, he was like, "What the hell is your problem?" He said, "Why are you sitting there reading this?" He said, "You have people at 8:00 AM talking about you and your life, and you sitting there letting that get to you."

Chlöe Tells Apple Music About Body Image

Chlöe Bailey: I'm going to be completely transparent. My body and my weight fluctuates constantly, right? And I think sometimes I have body dysmorphia because there'll be times I look and I'll feel way bigger than I was. And I look back at pictures, I'm like, "Chlöe, you were snatched."

Latto: You were snatched.

Chlöe Bailey: So it's like sometimes, even right now, I gained a couple pounds and I'm like, "It looks good on me." Instead of beating myself up about it, because I will. I notice when I'm stressed, I eat, because it's my favorite thing. It brings me the utmost joy. It never fails. But I'm like, "It's okay. I'm growing. My body will grow. Hormones, things change, whatever." But it's like I can't put so much pressure on myself. But when people tell me like, "Oh, I want my body like yours," I'm looking like, "Huh?" Because I'll be sitting there nitpicking everything.

Chlöe Tells Apple Music About Social Media and the Pressure to Maintain a Certain Image

We try to lessen anything that people can say or talk about us, so because we're constantly in our heads, we're like, "Okay, well how can I fix this? How can I make that okay?" So all of our insecurities get heightened. Because even things we weren't insecure about, people will poke on.

Chlöe Tells Apple Music About VMA Comments

Chlöe Bailey: It's like at VMAs, that's what it was. So Jack Harlow had the seat thing on the airplane. They're like, "Okay, just sit and look forward. Right?" I'm like, "Okay, I'm going to sit and look forward. I got this dress. I can't sit a certain way because it's like a corset. I don't want it to bulge out." I'm sitting there like this. Next thing you know, I see things going around, "She looked like she about to have sex with the chair." I'm like, "Now hold on. Wait a minute. I can't just sit down?" I'm like, "Now, I'm not even gyrating on the chair. I am sitting like this." I'm sitting like this looking forward.

Latto: They was mad because how you were sitting in the chair?

Chlöe Bailey: Yes. And I'm like, "Okay, if I can't sit without people thinking I'm about to hump the chair, then something's going on." They're like, "Oh, she's trying to force her sex appeal." I'm like, "I can't sit in a chair?"

Latto: Why they didn't warn me? Why they didn't warn me that you was out of pocket like this? Ms. Bailey…

Chlöe Bailey: So I said, "Okay, if that happens and they say that," I said, "Okay, I can't do nothing right, so let me just be me."

Chlöe Tells Apple Music What Makes a Superstar

I'm trying to get to where I think a superstar is. So there's a few people in my... like Beyoncé, Michael, Whitney, Mariah, Janet… That's where I want to be. So I know I have a lot of work to go because I've seen firsthand the work ethic that has gone into it. And I'm like, "Yes, I know I work hard, but I could go even harder." And it's like, for me, when I perform, that's the place where I feel most safe. That's the place where I feel most confident. That's where I feel like the Chlöe people think I am. And when I know I feel that safe when I perform, I know that's my purpose. I'm like, "God, please, I hope I get here, here, here and here." But as long as I have the stage, I feel like as long as I have that and I just keep my head down and keep God first, hopefully I'll get there.

Chlöe Tells Apple Music About Her Locks

Latto: I really, really love your locks. I think it just separates you. And I think you show so many girls... I even seen a tweet about this before. I was like, you show so many other girls that might have locks growing up and you just show them how creative you can be with them. You and Halle, both. And I seen a tweet and they was like, "Damn, they be doing shit that I didn't even know you could do with locks."

Chlöe Bailey: I saw that. It's fun. I've had them since I was four. I'm 24 now. I've had them for 20 years. And it's like I want to switch it up. I want to play. I want to have fun. But I never want to get rid of my locks.
