Kai: Your favorite street artist has blessed over 50 Detroit billboards with his magic touch
Forget putting autographs onto pieces of paper - it’s way deeper than ink when it comes to street artist Kai. The coast to coast creator took his talent to South Beach Detroit to show off some of his epic creations courtesy of more than 50 Motown billboards throughout the city.
Kai left a signature touch all throughout the Detroit streets
It’s only right Kai took it to the streets - and higher - with his artistic flex. From ‘Imaginary Friend’ going all the way up on billboards to spreading l-o-v-e in every form possible, it’s all must-see. A massive photo credit salute to Kai and his amazing team for blessing Attack The Culture with these fire looks.
As you remember, Kai and his Imaginary Friend (or, “IF” as fans call him) – an affable character that’s intentionally free of religion, ethnicity and gender to convey thoughtful and emotional themes – have shown up around the world through street art, major installations and sold-out exhibits.
Earlier this month, the duo took over 50+ billboards (approx. 20 static and 30 digital) alongside much of Southeast Michigan’s major highways and thoroughfares (including 8 Mile Road, Gratiot, I-75, I-275 and I-696). Pieces range from original concepts on blank vinyl canvases to creative additions to current advertorial (photos here) and create an immersive look at Kai’s relatable concepts.
Why Detroit? Kai admires the city’s grit (cement remains a key component of most of his pieces) and burgeoning art scene and found a partner that enabled him to intro his work in a polite-yet-vandal way.
Residents can check out Kai’s work for the next several weeks.
