Hailing from the South Side of Chicago, 20-year old Kidd Kenn (Dontrell Smith) discovered an unparalleled joy for performance at an early age. His viral freestyle videos quickly gained him local notoriety and an influx of fans online racking up hundreds of thousands of views. With the mission of encouraging young people to be comfortable in their own skin, Kidd Kenn approaches his music with a passion and hunger that cannot be denied. He’s a pioneer in his hometown and pushing the boundaries of hip-hop as we know it. As more and more artists embrace their authentic selves, they will continue to look to Kenn to lead the pack in breaking the mold.
His debut mixtape Childish dropped in September 2018, followed by the Child’s Play EP (February 2020, establishing the Kidd Kenn brand with "Bougie Fellow," "Babysitter," and "Benji"); and Problem Child EP (June 2020, containing “Gold Digger” featuring Dess Dior; “Freestyle,” a viral collaboration with Delli Boe; “Moves” featuring Rico Nasty; and "Good Day"). In 2021, Kenn dropped the “B4” Remix featuring Saucy Santana. 2022 brought Kenn’s move from Island Records to Def Jam Recordings on “Body,” “At It Again,” (a reunion with Delli Boe), and “Want Not A Need” featuring Baby Tate. All three were included on the July EP release, Grown, which also spun off a new video “Do Dat At” featuring Erica Banks.
Kidd Kenn is busy as ever in 2023, starting with The Best Of Kidd Kenn pink-splatter vinyl + toy doll box-set, released in May and currently available exclusively at over 1,700 of the nearly 2,000 Target store locations in the U.S. and Canada. Kidd Kenn’s buzz continues to grow with tastemaker support and co-signs from Grammy®-winning artists Cardi B, Lizzo, Megan Thee Stallion, and Lil Nas X, along with Chance The Rapper, Saweetie, Kehlani, Young M.A, and more.
