Myaap comes through clutch with a new ‘Big Myaap, Not The Lil One’ album
While it’s just a sneak listen to what she’s brewing these days, each song delivers signature sounds and she even made sure to come through with the visual treatment, too.
Myaap, the woman at the forefront of Milwaukee’s burgeoning rap scene, has just released her new mixtape BIG MYAAP, NOT THE LIL ONE, along with a music video for "Smackin". Led by its lead single “I Ain’t Hidin” (feat. Mg Sleepy), which strays away from the frenetic clapping that's become synonymous with Myaap and her region's sound, her new mixtape finds her expanding upon the signature Milwaukee buzz by continuing to infuse it with danceable drumlines, bouncy energy and playful wordplay. BIG MYAAP, NOT THE LIL ONE follows 2023's Worth the Wait in Myaap's rapid ascension and trendsetting knack, featuring seven new street-inspired, dance-ready songs. Despite releasing her first track only a year ago, Myaap has quickly garnered a cult following, over 6 Million accumulative streams for her bass-heavy, high-BPM beats that combine Southern bounce with more contemporary songs coming out of the Chicago and Detroit street rap scenes.
While Milwaukee's rap scene has existed for decades, it has long been an unsung hero, existing (and thriving) in the shadow of much larger, more prominent metropolitan heavy-weights. Truly Midwestern in its fusion of subcultures, it exists at the crossroads of America: Southern in its influences, Eastern in its sentiments, and undeniably West Coast in the celebration of carefree jouissance. Myaap stands at the forefront of this cultural moment, lending herself into the foray of TikTok virality and forward-thinking sonics, backed by her recent phenomenon “Getting to It”, which samples ABBA’s “Dancing Queen”, and other standout tracks like “Wham'' and “Party Crackin'' (1.3M+ Streams). With each subsequent release, Myaap is helping to give her city its long-overdue credit – continuing to put on for her city with her new mixtape BIG MYAAP, NOT THE LIL ONE, out now.
