OVO Sound: Smiley's much-needed 'I Did What I Did' album has finally arrived

Who feels like waiting until Friday for a new studio effort? Look no further than OVO Sound’s Smiley coming through in the clutch to get your Hump Day right-right courtesy of a newly released I Did What I Did album.

OVO Sound star Smiley’s new ‘I Did What I Did’ has arrived

While it’s just under 10 songs and 22 minutes long, the project slaps from start to finish. Whether you want to turn up to ‘Benzi Boys’ or hear Smiley get direct with ‘Cut Her Off,’ there’s ample replay value on the EP.

After a long-awaited hiatus, OVO Sound recording artist Smiley is finally releasing his highly-anticipated mixtape album 'IDWID' (I DID WHAT I DID), tonight at 9PM PST/12AM EST. The mixtape features 9 bump-worthy tracks, including the currently released songs 'Fast Route,' 'Nicky Nine Door,' 'Eternals,' and most recent track 'Long Nights. 'IDWID' comes from Smiley choosing to chase his dreams over the streets. Smiley states, 'When I was locked up and on house arrest, nobody was checking for me, so when I got out, I got tunnel vision and locked in on my music career and my family, and that meant taking a step back from those who were not there for me when when I needed them the most, and I felt bad about it at first, but now I embrace it, like ‘I did what I did,’ and that’s what’s best for me.'

IDWID showcases Smiley's unprecedented talent and knack for captivating listeners with his unique flow. The tracklist is a mix of singles that encompass raw lyrics from Smiley's journey to now. With IDWID's overall atmospheric production and hypnotic flows, Smiley gives his fans and listeners a satisfying peek into his past, present and future.

Known for his strikingly unique voice and flow, Smiley has garnered both admiration and criticism for his distinctive approach to hip-hop. Smiley’s unwavering commitment to his originality has earned him a well-deserved place in the hip-hop industry. Born in Montreal, raised in Toronto, Smiley began making music in high school with his friends. Although Drake had known of Smiley since 2014, it was in 2017 that Smiley caught the attention of Drake when Smiley released his underground single ‘HIT,’ and debut project 'Buy or Bye,’ which would later inspire Drake’s 2018 ‘Scorpion,’ album.

Smiley's string of boundary-pushing tapes in the ensuing years earned him a deal with Drake’s label 'OVO Sound,' in 2021, resulting in the explosive single "Over The Top" [featuring Drake], which reached over 100 million streams globally and vaulted into the Top 10 at Urban Radio and Bilboard’s Hot 100. Garnering over 150 million cumulative streams and earning acclaim from XXL, The FADER, UPROXX, Rolling Stone, and more, Smiley pushes the envelope with his recently released deluxe edition of' Buy or Bye 2,' with 6 new singles including the hit banger ‘BILL,’ and upcoming single "Grammy" [feat. 42 Dugg]. The original Buy or Bye 2 has impressively amassed over 135 million global streams.  As Smiley gears up to take his sound to the world's stage this summer, the half Mexican/half Haitian artist is prepping to release his latest project "IDWID" (I Did What I Did).
