EA Sports’ F1 22 is packed with new updates
Starting today, Codemasters and EA hit the green light on coming through on a batch of new features. The best one? How about players now being able to take the grid for the 14-round season including F2 Sprint, competing against new contenders Logan Sargeant, Jack Doohan and the recently crowned champion Felipe Drugovich.
F1® 22’s popular manager-owner My Team mode gets a surprise drop on October 17 with Mika Häkkinen* as the latest in-game Icon. The ‘Flying Finn’ won back-to-back World Championships in 1998 and 1999 and was one of the most respected drivers of his generation. Champions Edition players can ignite old rivalries whilst competing against other in-game Icons, including Michael Schumacher, whom Häkkinen called his greatest rival.
Following the FORMULA 1 HONDA JAPANESE GRAND PRIX 2022, McLaren Racing’s Future Mode special livery, inspired by the futuristic and innovative landscapes of Singapore and Japan, is included as a free download for all players for a limited time. Players will also have the option to permanently download the Future Mode livery for free** from December and equip it to the player car.
With the F1® season heading west, all players will receive free US-inspired content via the in-game mail. From October 17, a US-inspired Stars and Stripes livery, helmet, race suit, and gloves will be available alongside The Griddy podium celebration. The dance craze, which took US sports celebrations to an entirely new level, finally makes its way into F1® 22 for all player-created drivers. Further customisation items are also available to unlock throughout the 30 Free and VIP tiers of Podium Pass Series 3, launching on October 12.
Of course it’s bigger than some personal reactions going down here. How about getting into the mind of a top-tier F1 executive?
“We’ve packed so much into the latest update with something for all players,” said Paul Jeal, Senior Director F1® Franchise at Codemasters. “Whether it’s vibrant Podium Pass items, crazy dance celebrations, a new racing icon, or the full 2022 F2 season, players have lots of new content giving them the perfect excuse to head back onto the track.”
F1® 22 embraces the new era of Formula 1® with this season’s revolutionary cars designed for more competitive racing, F1® Sprint, and immersive race day moments such as formation laps, safety car moments, and pit stops. The game includes recent circuit updates to Spain, Australia, Abu Dhabi and the new Miami International Autodrome. For seasoned veterans, F1® 22 expands its features with the return of My Team, now with three starting points, the acclaimed 10-year Career with two-player functionality, Multiplayer including offline split-screen, and VR for PC.

EA Sports’ F1 22 is coming correct this October
While you’ll have to stay at red - light - until October 11, the details have surfaced on what’s going down. From being able to download the livery pack for free and race it in-game for a month to geeking out over new driver ratings, there’s plenty to smile about right now.
Codemasters™ and Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) continue to deliver special items for players in EA SPORTS F1® 22 reflecting the Formula 1® season with the upcoming McLaren Racing livery, designed for use at the Singapore and Japanese Grands Prix. The Future Mode special livery, free for all players starting October 11 as part of the downloadable pack within Podium Pass Series 3*, will replace the standard McLaren Racing livery in-game for a month.
Future Mode is inspired by the futuristic and innovative landscapes of Singapore and Japan. The 3D graphic style presents a bright, varied palette of neon colours. Following its time-limited presence, players can permanently download the new McLaren livery for free* and use it as a player car in the game. The new livery will also be used by the McLaren Shadow Team in the F1® Esports Series from October 12 to 14.
“We're thrilled to partner with McLaren Racing and offer another time-limited special livery,” said Paul Jeal, Snr Director F1® Franchise at Codemasters. “We know how much our players love the one-off liveries and Future Mode will be no exception.”
Building on the authenticity, yesterday, the studio released its second Driver Ratings update in collaboration with Formula 1® experts David Croft, Alex Jacques, and Anthony Davidson to better reflect individual performance up to and including FORMULA 1 PIRELLI GRAN PREMIO D’ITALIA 2022. Max Verstappen’s dominance sees his overall rating increase to 96, two points ahead of his nearest rival. Zhou Guanyu’s improved on-track performances haven’t gone unnoticed, and he’s now eight points higher than his launch day rating.

Cross-play is finally happening with EA Sports
While we’ll still have to wait for the day to come when Madden and FIFA jump onboard the cross-playing goals, EA Sports’ racing title is setting the stage with the massive announcement.
Codemasters® and Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) today confirm that EA SPORTS™ F1® 22 will be the most social F1® title to date, connecting more players around the world with the inclusion of cross-play, coming later this month. Ahead of the full integration at the end of August, players can compete with friends across PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam & Origin™) in two separate trials running 5-7 and 12-14 August in Social Race and Two-Player Career modes.
“Cross-play brings all our players together and allows them to settle the score of who is the best driver across all platforms,” said Lee Mather, F1® Senior Creative Director at Codemasters. “Cross-play also allows us to create better matchmaking opportunities so players can compete against rival racers with similar attributes.
A highly requested community feature, cross-play integration will improve matchmaking and allow friends to come together regardless of platform. There is also the ability to disable cross-play for those who wish to compete solely against competitors from the same family of devices. Session hosts can invite friends on other platforms via the ‘Invite Friends’ option in the game lobby. Players can review and accept requests whilst racing by pausing the game and visiting the ‘Invites and Requests’ option.
And just in case you’re still getting put onto the awesomeness of F1 22? It’s one of the most fast-paced games on the market.
F1® 22 accurately represents the new era of Formula 1® with revolutionary cars, regulation changes with the inclusion of F1® Sprint, the introduction of the Miami International Autodrome, and circuit updates to Spain, Australia, and Abu Dhabi. New Adaptive AI adjusts the difficulty applied to AI competitors, adapting their speed and competitiveness, and Immersive and Broadcast options for Pit Stops, Formation Laps, and Safety Car periods increase the race-day authenticity.
F1® 22 expands its features with F1® Life, a new customisable social hub that allows players to show off their collection of fashion, accessories, trophies and supercars. The eight collectable supercars can be driven on-track in the Pirelli Hot Lap feature, replicating the early part of the race weekend. The game also sees the return of My Team, now with three starting points, the acclaimed 10-year Career with two-player functionality, and Multiplayer, including offline split-screen. VR also makes its debut on PC, offering the most immersive on-track F1® experience to date.
