Majid Jordan and Zane Lowe chop it up about ‘Hands Tied’ and new music

Jordan and the now-legendary Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe don’t hold back on keeping the conversation brewing. While we’ll have to wait for a full-fledged audio and video embed, check out some of the key moments from the Q&A and head over to Apple Music for the full experience.

Majid Jordan on New Song "Hands Tied”…

Majid: I think we were just isolated at the time. We were working with each other. We decided to sit down and start something new. And so we found a studio a little bit out of the way and sat down with each other. And this was one of the songs, one of four songs that came about. And it felt like a jam session, really. The way this song started, it's very bare. It started with a drum loop and a baseline. And you hear that throughout the song. And the intro piece was a loop that was built on an iPhone…

Majid Jordan on Their Forthcoming Album ‘Good People’...

Jordan:  I think with this album, we just wanted to make something that you could put on and you could play start to finish and really move forward with.

Majid:  I feel as time progresses, you grow and you gain perspective of where you were, where you are now, you can appreciate what you have. Trust me and we'll go on this next journey. Let's just do it. Let's go back to Bahrain. Let's make this song. Let's figure it out.

Majid Jordan on Recording Half of Their Forthcoming Album ‘Good People’ in Bahrain…

Jordan:  I think we really knew where we wanted to make the album. I think we wanted to make half of it in Toronto and half of it in Bahrain. And we've never done that before and we did it on this one.

Majid: It was amazing. It was 10 years in the making for me because that's where I was born. And our first album that we made under the name Good People we made here in Toronto. And I was with Jordan's family while we were making that because I didn't have any family here. And this time we got to do that in my hometown. And he got to come over, meet everybody, meet the family, create, meet the people, get to know the culture. People are very generous and welcoming. They want to show you the best time, they host you well. So we got so much love and I think that love fed into the music that you're hearing on this project. I think we took a second to really simplify our lives and say what are we doing? What do we really care about? What's important? I've lived away from home since I was 17 years old. It would be beautiful to bring this energy back there and make something that we can then share with the world.
