DJ Premier’s Hip Hop 50 Volume 1 is here

After mounted anticipation, Premo has hit the green light on dropping the LP to everyone. It even has a legendary vibe to it with hip-hop pioneer Slick Rick securing a spot on the album.

With his first proper project since the release of Gang Starr’s historic and chart-topping, One Of The Best Yet, DJ Premier’s new project celebrates the sound of Hip-Hop’s pre-eminent producer and he tapped a star-studded list of esteemed guests for DJ Premier: Hip Hop 50 Volume 1, which includes appearances from Nas, Lil Wayne, Run The Jewels, Joey Bada$$, Remy Ma, Rapsody and Slick Rick.  

 “I will always seize the moment of being unique when it comes to releasing music” Premier declares.  “To be a part of Hip Hop 50 is an additional blessing to preserving the culture.”  

It’s more than just a one-off

In case the volume one reference wasn’t enough, rest assured there’s more to follow with this huge release.

The Soundtrack will encompass a series of 10 EPs of all newly released music that will bring together the industry’s most highly regarded producers who are defining the landscape of music and culture in celebration of 50 years of Hip Hop. Following DJ Premier’s EP release, fans can look forward to new music curated by Swizz Beatz, Mustard, The-Dream, Mike Will Made It, No I.D., Hit-Boy, Take A Daytrip and Tainy.

The entire series will be distributed via Mass Appeal’s new deal with The Orchard. Bringing together some of the biggest names in Hip Hop, this project will further solidify the #HipHop50 movement as it not only captures 50 years of culture but will also honor some of the latest and greatest to do it. A portion of all #HipHop50 proceeds will be donated to various charitable organizations, including, the Universal Hip Hop Museum set to open its doors in 2024.
