Wale’s taking over the entire Washington, DC this entire week
It’s way more than just showing a little DMV love for everyone’s favorite DMV rapper. Ralph Folarin is starting things up with a Washington Commanders game starting on Sunday and mixing in music, holiday drives and more sports for the next few days.
Wale and his management company EQT announced Gifted Week, a week-long community event series celebrating DMV culture from November 10-17th, 2024. The week comes at the end of his 32-city Every Blue Moon Tour, in the lead up to his sold out show at the MGM in Maryland on Nov 15, 2024. Last November, Wale played a 10th anniversary show for his album The Gifted at the world renowned Kennedy Center in DC, where he received a proclamation from DC Mayor Muriel Bowser designating November 10th as “Wale Day” in DC. For this upcoming Wale Day, alongside his hometown show, Wale “wanted to do something special for home, to unite the next generation of artists and athletes.”
The week will include a Sneaker Design Workshop in partnership with Nike, a Youth Football Clinic in partnership with the Washington Commanders, a poetry jam and open mic night, a panel on the intersection of music and sports, and other events throughout the DC metro area. The week also coincides with DC’s Gogo Appreciation Week, an acknowledgement of the area’s hometown genre and effort to keep its musical community alive. Gifted Week is sponsored by EQT, Nike, the Washington Commanders, DC OCTFME, DC Commission on Arts & Humanities, Monumental Sports, and more.
TICKETS: All events during Gifted Week are free and open to the public on a first come, first serve basis. More information and RSVP tickets can be found at gifted-dmv.com beginning on Friday, November 1st, 2024, at 10am PST.

ABOUT WALE
Few rap artists have been as versatile for as long as Wale. Since unloading his breakout project, 2008’s A Mixtape About Nothing, the DC rhymer has helped permanently collapse the worlds of backpack rap and the Billboard Hot 100, packaging spurts of striking social commentary with braggadocious bars, Seinfeld-indebted irony, and anthemic tales of romance and aspiration. In the process, he earned Platinum and Gold plaques while establishing himself as the one of most accomplished MCs the DMV’s ever produced. And he’s still pushing forward with his last album, Folarin II, a sequel to 2012’s fan-favorite mixtape Folarin. With its kaleidoscopic blend of fly-guy theme songs, infectious R&B collaborations, and genuine soul-searching, the record reaffirms his status as one of rap’s most innovative, exciting, and enduring curators. Before he had a legacy to contemplate, Wale was born and raised Olubowale Victor Akintimehin to Nigerian immigrant parents in Washington, D.C. After graduating from Quince Orchard High School in 2002, he attended Robert Morris University and Virginia State University on football scholarships before transferring to Bowie State University. Soon enough, though, he dropped out to pursue a rap career, with “Dig Dug (Shake It)”—a playfully confident introductory tune inspired by his hometown’s go-go movement—becoming his first local hit immediately upon its release in 2006. That same year, he was featured in The Source’s Unsigned Hype Column.
After a trio of mixtapes—Paint a Picture, Hate Is the New Love, 100 Miles & Running—Wale consummated his rise with 2008’s A Mixtape About Nothing, a project inspired by his favorite TV series, Seinfeld. For that project, the then-ascendant rhymer spit over go-go-inspired beats as he tackled subjects like fashion, the rap game, everyday racism, and domestic abuse with his now-signature blend of nuance, critical thought, and machismo. In an era where rap subgenres were debated and more obviously stratified, Wale's style was disruptively inclusive. Naturally, compromising his subject matter was never an option. “My goal was just to be successful and stay true to what I want to do,” he says. Wale has made good on that for a decade and a half.By the time he released his major-label debut album, 2009’s Attention Deficit, Wale was named a member of XXL’s prestigious Freshman Class, and his status as one of hip-hop’s premier rising artists had crystallized. In the intervening years, he transitioned from a promising up-and-comer to a venerable rap star. After aligning with Rick Ross and Maybach Music Group in 2011, Wale released Ambition, a sophomore LP coated in reflective rhymes and bars meant to inspire. It also includes the glittering ballad, “Lotus Flower Bomb,” a track that’s since been certified Platinum. Between 2012 and 2020, he continued fortifying his catalog with albums like The Gifted (2013), The Album About Nothing (2015), Shine (2017), and Wow...That’s Crazy (2019). During this period, he collected a Platinum plaque for “My P.Y.T.”; Gold for Ambition and The Gifted, and his Rick Ross and Jeremih-assisted single “That Way;” and more accolades. His last album, Folarin II (2019), spawned hits like “Poke It Out” with J Cole before he left Warner Records and took some time away from music.
He re-emerged in 2023 with a new deal at Def Jam, a feature on Odumodublvck’s “Blood On The Dance Floor” which went #1 in Nigeria for 8 weeks, a headline show at the Kennedy Center in DC for the first time to celebrate the 10th year anniversary of his album The Gifted, and his first Diamond record for the legendary Waka Flocka collaboration “No Hands . In 2024, he’s been putting the finishing touches on his 8th album, and readying fans old and new for his next chapter as one of hip hop’s greatest writers.
Wale: My favorite DMV rapper had the time of his life at WaleMania and WrestleMania
Who doesn’t love Washington, DC’s own Wale? The rap heavyweight always delivers and provides so much for The Culture so it’s only right to geek out over Ralph Folarin geeking out over this past weekend’s WaleMania and WrestleMania in Philadelphia.

Wale turned all the way up for WaleMania and WrestleMania ‘24
The DMV native made sure to ignite things a couple days ahead of WrestleMania going down with his signature WaleMania concert series. But then getting up-close looks at those wild matches from Saturday and Sunday nights alongside model Winnie Harlow, rap heavyweight 2 Chainz, comedian Druski and Philly’s own Michael Rubin? Epic.
‘Thank u for the abundance of love Philly .. #Walemania was amazing. Wrestlemania was amazing . The city of Brotherly Love.’
Wale: The Washington DC native is keeping it 100 with random thoughts
Legit can’t get enough Wale? Me neither. While new songs are always on deck, it’s all about seeing what’s on the mind of Ralph Folarin with a sneak peek at some tweet and delete thoughts.

Wale’s thoughts are all about honesty and the holiday season
Over the past 24 hours, Wale has hit up social media pages to keep things 100. Rather than sugarcoat concepts, the Washington, DC native lit up his feeds with topics ranging from the concept of fame to what the holidays really mean to people around the globe.
‘The crazy thing about ‘fame’ is… That ppl Check on u when sumn u said go viral But those same people had access to the same shit u said before it went… Nvm’
…
A lot of diaspora kids don’t have the ‘that’s my bestie’ vibes wit their parents…to the ones that grew up balancing fear v love because of respect … i salute u and happy hollowdays… u not alone’
Post and delete ting.. but Rudolph can get a nose job. And frosty can sunbathe... Santa can.. I dunno lose her girl or his gps idk .. but the the point is be kind to folks cuz everybody holiday experience isn't the same ...
Wale's Dropped His Star-Studded 'Folarin II' Album + It's Fuego
Remember when Wale seemed to be uninspired and not down to drop new music? Us either - the Maybach Music Group member comes through after mounted anticipation with his new Folarin II studio album.

Wale’s Dropped His Star-Studded ‘Folarin II’ Album
The must-hear new album comes just weeks after Wale teamed up with North Carolina’s finest J. Cole for their “Poke It Out” anthem and is stacked with collaborations.
Grammy-nominated rap star, actor and advocate Wale releases his long-awaited album Folarin II, a versatile, yet cohesive constellation of braggadocious bars, soul-baring romantic confessionals, and moving social commentary. Full of dynamic lyricism, stylish production, and studded with features from J. Cole, Chris Brown, Rick Ross, and more, Folarin II fortifies Wale’s status as one of the defining artists of his generation.
Throwback Sounds In Modern Day
One of the standout features of the new project is Wale’s knack for creating new tunes with odes to throwback classics. On multiple songs, the 80’s baby goes the vintage route taking classic 90’s and 00’s song sounds with a modern day twist.
For his latest Warner Records album, Wale flips between sounds and moods, dipping into flirty wordplay and mid-2000s R&B samples one moment (“Poke It Out” with J. Cole and “Angles” with Chris Brown) and triumphant, yet reflective tracks the next (“Tiffany Nike” and “Light Years” with Rick Ross). On “Poke It Out,” he cruises over a sample of Q-Tip’s “Vivrant Thing” for a playful single, trading slick bars with Cole. Wale’s album-length balancing act is a testament to his skills as a writer and to his well-honed taste as a curator, qualities that helped him elevate to his place as one of rap’s premier tastemakers. It’s a position he’s maintained since bursting onto the scene over a decade ago and it’s one he’s steadily reminded fans of over the last few years.
A Couple Standout Anthems
Over the past few months, Wale’s remained committed to dropping serious heat. He collaborated with both J. Cole and R&B hitmaker Chris Brown for some certified bangers.
Wale’s Been Grinding For A Minute
Over the past few years, Ralph Folarin has remained committed to grinding out new tunes. Even before the pandemic hit, the Washington, DC native kept putting out big anthems.
Last November, he shared the bittersweet “Flawed” with Gunna. And in 2019, his sixth studio album Wow… That’s Crazy spawned the #1 single “On Chill” featuring Jeremih, which received a 2020 BET Award nomination for "Best Collaboration." The Grammy-nominated artist’s list of accolades and accomplishments grows every year. He’s covered publications such as Complex, Billboard, XXL, Vibe, and Uproxx, and has received honors at the BET Awards, BET Hip-Hop Awards, Soul Train Awards, and more. To date, Wale has achieved six Platinum or multi-Platinum singles, three Gold singles, and two Gold albums. Folarin II shows that despite all the acclaim, he’s still focused on building a legacy, one that shines brighter than any plaque.
