Jean Deaux comes through with a repeat-worthy ‘nowhere, fast’ album
No lie? I can’t get enough of the ‘Roll With Me’ anthem. It’s a standout tune and of course found itself in the Attack The Culture 50 Must-Hear New Songs homepage playlist. Lose yourself in the music.
Following the release of her 2023 EP release ‘HEAVY’ & her well-known 2020 hit single “Moody! (ft. Saba)”, Chicago-bred multi-hyphenate, rapper, and singer Jean Deaux unveils her new EP ‘nowhere, fast’ via GUIN Records.
On the 8-track project, Jean opens up about her enduring, yet introspective journey over the past year searching for personal growth amidst feelings of stagnation. Further describing her new body of work as a coming of age story about the delicate relationship between time and lessons learned – ‘nowhere, fast’ marks a shift from seeking external validation to focusing on what truly matters to her and envisioning her future.
Jean reflects on childhood manifestations and the dreams she has actualized in her burgeoning career as an artist, director, and filmmaker in the black queer space. The project stands as a cathartic release for the young artist, reflecting on the lessons of adulthood and womanhood.
“It’s about coming to the end of your 20-somethings and feeling everything has been such a blur, from childhood to young adulthood, to now just being who I am. Everything has flown past me and I feel like I’ve come so far but at the same time, so many things look the same. So many things blend in with each other into the background,” expresses Jean Deaux.
Ahead of the EP announcement, Jean revealed the project’s second single "Dreamin" – a reflective diary entry about outgrowing others' image or limited fantasy of you. Jean’s focus track accompanying the project "Thinkin,” featuring Destin Conrad and produced by Grammy-nominated producer LIDO, is described as a soulful, lovers’ cut about being present and getting out of your head and trying to understand your person and their dreams.
“I’ve always felt like this ‘Where’s Waldo’ figure in the middle of the busiest planet in the galaxy. Trying to find my pace, my rhythm, and fearing that I won’t catch it in time and life is going to pass me by.”
“As I’m healing through those feelings and getting to a place where I’m establishing my life & who I am, and I'm getting to those answers—before I get there, I want to explore this feeling that I am now. The feeling that’s encouraged me to transition and graduate into the next feeling of my life.” - Jean Deaux
Jean Deaux recently announced her forthcoming US 5-city ‘Nowhere, Fast’ Tour that kicks off this Summer on June 17th in Atlanta, GA. Tickets on sale now.
