Yung Kayo puts the entire DMV on his back with 'Nineteen'

It’s more than birthday cake, cake, cake when it comes to Yung Kayo. The Washington, DC native is celebrating his 19th birthday with his new Nineteen EP and it’s packed with anthems.

While there’s just 7 tunes on the project, each one slaps. The hip-hop artist come through clutch with a guest spot courtesy of Lil Keed on the album.

Today, DC rapper Yung Kayo releases his EP Nineteen, on his 19th birthday. Nineteen captures the ever-evolving sound of Yung Kayo as he enters a new era, the youngest Young Stoner Life label member’s final teenage year. The 7-song record shows Kayo gliding through smooth melodies and hard-hitting beats. Starting off with the introductory “Song”, Yung Kayo crafts the story of a teenager navigating his desire for creativity and escapism

Encompassing tracks that blend his signature rap-yelling sound with hyperpop beats that come just close enough to take over the song, but never quite outweigh Kayo’s lyrical prowess, Kayo showcases the versatility of his vocal strength and songwriting skills throughout the EP. With a guest appearance from the late Lil Keed, Yung Kayo’s collaborator and close friend, “I Wouldn’t” quickly presents itself as a standout track. Followed by “Bloom”, one of the artists longest tracks clocking in at just over 4 minutes, and outro “Closer”, the project wrap up on an introspective tone.

It’s safe to say he’s still a rookie in the game but has earned his stripes. He previously put out a project also sharing a connection to celebrating more life.

Washington D.C native Kai Green, better known as Yung Kayo, is a rapper taking the scene by storm with his up-tempo futuristic rap style that melds his fluid flows and undeniable energy. While Kayo’s focus is on music, his creative side is also prevalent in everything he does. The cover art for his EP Sweet16 was commissioned by him and created by a graphic designer he discovered. In addition, for Kayo fashion is something that has always been present as it originally started as something that came natural to him and would transition into him gracing runways during Paris Fashion Week. As he gears up for the release of his next project, Kayo is proving that whether fans want to rage in a mosh pit or vibe to a melody he’s capable of doing it all.
