True Detective: It's a celebration with 'Night Country' hitting Blu-ray and DVD today

I don’t normally geek out too much unless it’s a full-fledged site takeover but with recent bad storms and Wi-Fi issues entering my life, I have really come to celebrate the power of physical ownership of awesomeness like today’s mighty Blu-ray and DVD release of ‘True Detective: Night Country.’

With the reality of Blockbuster a joke-joke and the sad reality of me not knowing if Netflix still does physical mailings for movies on Blu-ray/DVD, I have come to accept the power and value in owning 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray shows and movies. So getting my hands on ‘True Detective: Night Country’ to watch in the comfort of my home not worrying about a bad Wi-Fi connection or log-in issues to Max - I can simply enjoy high definition quality of a superb TV show franchise following its premiere earlier this year on Max.

The stellar cast ignited by Jodie Foster and getting paired up with sidekick Kali Reis - who can seriously body people in real life as a professional boxer - it’s the signature ‘True Detective’ formula you’ve come to love with the pairing of partners to unravel a big mystery. An Alaska setting, too? Say less.

Set in Alaska, True Detective: Night Country follows detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis), as they investigate the disappearance of eight scientists. In addition, the season also stars John Hawkes, Christopher Eccleston, Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, Anna Lambe, Aka Niviâna, Isabella Star Lablanc, and Joel D. Montgrand.

Credits: Showrunner, writer, director, executive producer, Issa López; star and executive producer, Jodie Foster. Executive Producers: Mari Jo Winkler; Barry Jenkins, Adele Romanski, and Mark Ceryak for PASTEL; Chris Mundy; Alan Page Arriaga; Steve Golin; Richard Brown; Matthew McConaughey; Woody Harrelson; Cary Joji Fukunaga; Nic Pizzolatto. Producers: Princess Daazhraii Johnson; Cathy Tagnak Rexford; Sam Breckman.

SYNOPSIS:

When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.

But it’s way more than just owning the physical version. As much as I geek out about Wi-Fi issues being resolved and not having to remember log-in credentials for my streaming platforms, that’s like just having the comfort of insurance whenever you’re driving or having the insurance plan on your iPhone in case it’s ever lost - do you anticipate losing? Of course not. But being able to breathe a sigh of relief? Game-changing. So adding onto those factors come the bonus features. This is where you really embrace owning a digital and physical copy of ‘True Detective: Night Country’ based on the extra content you get.

BONUS FEATURES:

·      Meet the True Detectives - Cast Q&A

·      New Chapter – Issa López (Showrunner/Writer/Director) and cast discuss Night Country’s unique role in the series

·      Exploring Indigenous Themes - Delves into Alaska Native culture and how it has informed this season.

·      Max Inkblots - Get to know cast through show-themed inkblot interpretations.

·      Setting Featurette - Sets up Alaska as a pivotal character in the story.

·      Atmospheric Teases - Social environmental shots to tease key moments from the series.

I am the type to completely go nuts over behind the scenes awesomeness and especially when you get to dig deep into both the casts’ minds along with the people behind the scenes like show runner Issa Lopez to get a better understanding of key moments, storytelling elements and the overall process of putting out a quality series for the prestigious Max - home to iconic shows ranging from ‘The Wire’ and ‘The Sopranos’ to ‘Insecure’ and ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm.’

Whether you’re looking to secure a Date Night-approved series to watch at yours and bae’s leisure or just need your own personal must-watch series to enjoy all summer long - ‘True Detective: Night Country’ on Blu-ray and DVD is up for grabs coming in at $29.98 and $24.98 respectively.
