Skylar Blatt: The 'Hold Me Down' music video completely secures those summer love vibes

I have to admit, just hearing ‘Hold Me Down’ and you know it’s audio fire. But having crooner Skylar Blatt coming through with the must-see music video, too? Super tough.

I have to admit, just hearing ‘Hold Me Down’ and you know it’s audio fire. But having crooner Skylar Blatt coming through with the must-see music video, too? Super tough.

It’s all types of glowing going down and big city vibes during summer love season. Completely tap in.

Cincinnati’s Skylar Blatt is quickly rising to the top of the rap game. Riding high off the massive success of her song of the summer contender “Wake Up” ft. Chris Brown, Skylar shares the music video for her new single “Hold Me Down.” The single, praised by Billboard as having a “hypnotic chorus,” is permeated with Skylar’s cool confidence, as she fits her infectious melodic runs between blasts of bass. In the “Hold Me Down” video Skylar ventures to New York City, where she casually flexes the fruits of her newfound success. The rising star brings home a huge haul of designer clothes, putting on a mini fashion show to reveal her new fits. Skylar’s effortless charm shines in the video, with her sparkling smile and high-energy dance moves adding a playful element to the catchy track.

“Hold Me Down” is the highly-anticipated follow-up to “Wake Up,” which was released in late April to much fanfare. It has generated more than 30 million streams to date, with TMZ proclaiming it’s “already being nominated to be a song of the summer,” Billboard selecting it as one of its R&B/Hip-Hop Fresh Picks, and ESSENCE crowning it as one of its “Best New Music” of its release week. Skylar's breezy single reached the Airplay Top 10 at Urban Radio and Rhythmic formats (it currently sits at #14 and #10 on each chart, respectively). She recently appeared on Angela Yee’s Lip Service to talk about “Wake Up” and much more.

Raised by a single mother as one of six, Skylar turned to hip-hop to escape the troubles of her youth, developing a style derived from the best East Coast and Midwest rappers. She first gained attention with freestyles she posted on her Instagram, eventually gaining an early co-sign from Meek Mill, and a glowing profile from Lyrical Lemonade. In October 2023, Skylar shared her mixtape Blatt SZN, home to "God Forbid" and ten other Cincy slappers. The tape won her a fan in Lola Brooke, who hopped on a remix to her song "F*ck Fame." Before "Wake Up," Skylar released her single "Laughin To Tha Bank,” a hard-hitting anthem that impacted local radio in Cincinnati.

Now, as the inaugural signee to Saint Ka$h Records, the record label founded by Kendell "Sav" Freeman, Skylar is looking to become the next Midwest rapper to break things open. With more music on the way, the Queen City queen is ready to defy the odds and take over 2024. Watch this space–the Sky is the limit.

EBK Jaaybo: The hard-hitting flex is a visual statement in the 'Kaboom' music video

Love a fire background with some hard bars? Look no further than EBK Jaaybo showing out with fire tunes and visuals like the ‘Kaboom’ must-see.

Love a fire background with some hard bars? Look no further than EBK Jaaybo showing out with fire tunes and visuals like the ‘Kaboom’ must-see.

It’s all types of straight-to-the-point lyrics and the music video doesn’t cut corners. Embrace the cinematic presentation.

Hailing from Stockton in California’s Central Valley, EBK Jaaybo has been a local legend since he released Dondadda at the age of 14, and despite being in and out of juvenile hall and San Joaquin County Jail, has managed to maintain his fanbase with a steady stream of music. In collaboration with Thizzler on the Roof, Jaaybo dropped his debut mixtape, 2021, in the midst of the pandemic before releasing another full-length project, Letter 4 The Streets, merely six months after that. Even so, it was the viral success of 2024’s “Boogieman” that catapulted EBK Jaaybo’s blasé swagger and slithering cadence into mainstream culture. Speaking on his new era, EBK Jaaybo sees The Reaper as a source of motivation for his listeners: “Some of my music will heal you. Some of my music will probably give off a sinister, satanic vibe. Some will make you want to slide, some will make you want to cry.”

Pyrex: The 'Screamin' music video touches much more than your soul

Want to lose yourself in the music? Look no further than what rap crooner Pyrex is doing for The Culture especially with his newly released ‘Screamin’ anthem. The song is already featured on the homepage’s Top 50 must-hear anthems but this visual goes extra hard.

Pure flexing and wild cinematic appeal as Pyrex pushes to get his message across to Attackers and A-Team alike. Tap in.

After sharing his latest single “Screamin” last week, Baltimore-bred Hip Hop pillar Pyrex releases his new the official music video. The GRAMMY-nominated artist, producer and budding star continues to build excitement for his forthcoming album Sincerely, Rex, due for release later this year.

Get “Screamin” at all DSPs HERE and watch the official music video HERE.

Pyrex’s longtime penchant for melancholy soundscapes comes into full focus on “Screamin.” On the track, the longtime member of Southside’s 808 Mafia collective showcases a celestial croon as he conjures jarring imagery of a romance that’s transitioned into a dark place: “Painting with my blood, telling me it’s art.” With his trap influence still in tow, Pyrex continues to tap into a broader scope of his artistry with his early Sincerely, Rex offerings.

This vision is brought to life in the video for “Screamin,” which visually invokes the same paranoia and angst baked into the song’s lyrics. Sent into a panic after being poisoned by a demonic symbol of lust on a seemingly relaxed night in, Pyrex finds himself fighting feverishly for his life as external pressure joins forces with his inner demons, both literally and figuratively. The symbolism is startlingly clear: betrayal can do vicious things to one’s psyche.

About Pyrex:

As his name suggests, Pyrex is a master of the cook-up. Since emerging as a pioneering member of the legendary 808 Mafia in the late 2010s, the GRAMMY-nominated producer-artist has cheffed up engrossing soundscapes for the likes of Young Thug and Future to reconfigure the sonic parameters of trap music. In the process, his beats have collected hundreds of millions of streams and he’s become a modern hip-hop icon. Now, he’s ready to level up again. His debut album, Sincerely Rex is more adventurous and refined than any of his prior works. As stylish as it is mesmerizing, “Wat im On” is the soundtrack to a spaceship joyride. With hazy guitar and spurts of warped vocals, tracks like “Skeletons”, “Void” and “Burning Bridges” are alluringly psychedelic, evoking experimental acts like Animal Collective or Pink Floyd more so than any of his more traditional contemporaries. It’s Pyrex 2.0 — an expansion demanded by a potent cocktail of ambition and imagination. Rex strengthened his skills producing for everyone from superstars like 21 Savage, Lil Yachty, Migos, Juice Wrld and renowned wordsmiths J. Cole and JID. Early in his career, Rex earned cosigns from trap music godfathers Metro Boomin and Southside, cementing his status as a leader of a new generation. As a member of 808 Mafia and as a solo artist, he continues to innovate at every turn. Today, separating Rex’s impact on modern hip-hop is like trying to scrape the surface from sandstone; instead of simply being influenced by trap music, Rex has become the fulcrum of the subgenre itself. With his latest, he’s cheffed up an eclectic array of sounds and emotions for an album that’s as raw as it is controlled.Sincerely, Rex is his most potent recipe yet.

What’s better than having a summer anthem during the hottest season of the year? How about having a full-fledged music video to complement the audio fire? Look no further than music crooner Laila! coming through with her ‘Not My Problem’ visual gem.

It’s all about turning up with the gang-gang and turning her words into visual statements. Tap in.

Fast-rising Billboard and TikTok chart-topping singer, songwriter, producer and 18-year-old, gen-z, R&B musical iconoclast LAILA! (aka "Baby Genius") unveils the globally anticipated music video for her uber-viral summer smash single "Not My Problem" out now. Watch HERE. The single is from Laila!'s forthcoming debut album "Gap Year!" which will release on September 6th and is available for pre-order today HERE via label IIIXL Studio distributed in partnership with Soundcloud.

Following her #1 TikTok hit "Like That!," which debuted this spring on Billboard's TikTok Top 50 chart and reigned in the top five of the charts for six weeks straight, “Not My Problem” also soared to #1, as well as charted on Billboard's "Hot R&B Songs" chart. The single has garnered over 100 million plays via reels, shorts and stories across social platforms while piling up over 36 million streams to date on dsp's with 20 million plays on Spotify alone.

The visual, directed by Otmara Marrero follows Laila! on a dream-filled, 90's themed, boss-girl journey as she provides the remedy to easily dismissing things that aren't one's problem. “Not My Problem” began as a freestyle I made after making the beat first" says Laila! "I played it for my sister and she said 'that's hard.' I just started singing the hook and it worked. It’s more of a mantra about letting go and not taking on things that really aren’t your problem."

Written, produced and performed exclusively by Laila!, "Not My Problem" has quickly become one of this summer's most globally viral songs while also inspiring some of music's hottest artists and producers in Hip Hop such as 6lack, Flo Milli, Big Sean and Fabolous among dozens of other hitmakers to drop verses and remixes on IG and TikTok thanks to Laila!'s SoundCloud Remix Producer Challenge inviting people to create remixes of her single. Laila! and winner of her remix producer challenge, hit-making producer Cash Cobain, collaborated on "Problem" the official remix to her hit single which released earlier this week.

Receiving favorable press in Billboard, Complex, Nylon, On the Radar, Rolling Stone, and Way Up with Angela Yee among others thus far, Lyrical Lemonade stated about Laila!: “While tons of artists each day sit around and scratch their heads about how to make it all make sense, Brooklyn based singer, songwriter, and producer, Laila!, is running laps around them as she’s seemingly figured this all out before even graduating high school."

Want to hit the road at record speed? How about soaring the skies and taking off? Maybe both? It’s all going down - and up - for the trio of Olamide, Fireboy DML and Asake these days with anthems like ‘Uptown Disco’ getting the visual treatment.

It’s all types of celebrations and fun vibes going in this cinematically glowing presentation. Turn up.

Just under a year after the release of his critically acclaimed Unruly album, which has amassed over 300 million global streams, and amidst rumours of his “retirement” swirling the zeitgeist, renowned African music icon and Nigerian rap legend OLAMIDE is back with a surprise new EP titled IKIGAI / 生き甲斐, VOL.1. The EP title, derived from the Japanese concept of ‘ikigai’, which means "a reason for living", serves as a thematic foundation for the project, where Olamide explores the intersections of passion, profession, and purpose. Throughout the EP, Olamide reaffirms his position as a trailblazer in global music, delivering on innovation and deep resonance yet again.

The Ikigai / 生き甲斐, Vol. 1 EP showcases Olamide’s genre-defying artistic versatility, and puts his legendary status in global music in no doubt. Sonically, the EP is a glorious fusion of hip-hop, afrobeats, dancehall, amapiano, and pop music, which offers a rich tapestry of diverse eclectic sounds, as Olamide continues to push the boundaries of his sound. Diving into themes of life, love, and power, the 7-track project reflects a new chapter in Olamide’s career, marked by a renewed passion for music, and a deeper connection to his artistry, underscoring his continuous evolution on this journey towards his ‘ikigai’ – his true reason for living and fulfilment.

Each track on Ikigai / 生き甲斐, Vol. 1 offers a distinct musical experience, with the opener ‘Metaverse’ introducing listeners to the EP's eclectic sonic landscape, followed by the high-energy ‘Uptown Disco’ featuring Olamide’s proteges Fireboy DML and Asake, while ‘Knockout’ with Moroccan Algerian songstress Sabri adds a soulful and sensual undertone to the project. ‘Hello Habibi’ sees Olamide exploring Arabic musical influences, demonstrating his global outlook, while the spiritual ‘Morowore’ reveals more of Olamide's introspective side. The EP culminates with the nostalgic ‘Synchro System’, which reunites Olamide with YBNL alumni Pheelz, Young Jonn, and Lil Kesh.

Lord Sko: The Washington Heights native delivers with Statik Selektah's 'Lesson Learned' music video

I promise you if it wasn’t for my crushes The Clermont Twins, you would see Lord Sko and Statik Selektah’s ‘Lesson Learned’ music video as the Video of the Day for today. My goodness. This production is signature Statik but it’s Lord’s flow which is most impressive in this visual flex.

Washington Heights on full display? New York City vibes from start to finish? You better believe it. Get caught up.

A torch bearer for the NYC rap scene, 20-year-old Lord Sko has the kind of songwriting chops and raw rhyme skills that would play in any era. Teaming with Statik Selektah for his latest lyrical showcase, the Washington Heights native shares "Lesson Learned," his new single and music video. "Lesson Learned" is the first glimpse of PIFF, Lord Sko's third album, coming October 23rd.

Applying his gruff rasp atop liquid keys, jazzy vibraphone and Statik Selektah's scratches, the young emcee delivers a string of assonant flexes on "Lesson Learned," proving that even though his style is timeless, he still acts his age: "Bless the broken language, I'm smokin' in Copenhagen/I could either be dead or in jail, or old and famous/Doin' shows in Vegas, closin' caskets, dodgin' open cases/Kids is coppin' Tims and askin' me how they supposed to lace 'em," he smirks. In the video, Sko shows the world around his hometown, bouncing from an Uptown pool hall to the cobblestone streets of DUMBO, as the visual effects mirror his intricate lyrics.

"Lesson Learned" is Lord Sko's first new solo song of 2024, presaging his next album, PIFF, coming soon. The anticipated follow-up to his acclaimed 2023 album United Palace is an expansion of the young rapper's sound, wiht a sonic palette crafted by luminaries like Harry Fraud, Statik Selektah, A-Lau, and Arlo Walker, the 18-year-old production prodigy who has been Sko's right-hand man since his 2022 debut, MUSEUM. The 14-track project signals Sko's growing respect in the rap game, with a cross-generational selection of features including Conway The Machine, Curren$y, Polo Perk$, and the legendary Grand Puba of the seminal rap group Brand Nubian.

With limitless potential and a work ethic to match, Lord Sko is looking to take his NYC sound global. Stay tuned for much more from the young artist as PIFF approaches.

The Background:

Lord Sko, aka Josh Fersko, is a native of Manhattan's Washington Heights. Already a veteran at just 20-years-old, having dropped 2 full-length projects, the prodigious lyrical talent continues to sharpen his sword on the upcoming PIFF, sure to be a stoner classic. The upcoming album finds the young rapper expanding his classic NYC sound, with help from producers like Statik Selektah, Harry Fraud, A Lau, and his right-hand man Arlo Walker.

Young Sko fell in love with rap music when he was still in middle school. Back then, hip-hop was in the fondly-remembered blog era, and Sko (who refers to himself as "the rap Jeff Hardy") elt himself drawn to the stoner side of blog rap, including Wiz Khalifa, Odd Future, Action Bronson, and Curren$y, who would later become a collaborator. After practicing his craft for two years, Sko decided at age 17 to share his skill with the world, teaming up with then-16-year-old Arlo Walker to create the 2022 album Museum. In 2023, Sko followed up that auspicious debut with the even-more-polished United Palace, named after the historic concert hall located in his uptown neighborhood.

The 14-song PIFF is the next step in Lord Sko's ascension, featuring high profile features that show the young artist's burgeoning reputation in the rap game. Among others, the project features appearances from Conway The Machine, Curren$y, Polo Perks, and the legendary Grand Puba of Brand Nubian. With PIFF on deck, an upcoming collaboration with Statik Selectah in the bag, and a forthcoming National and his first-ever European tour in 2024, the future looks bright for Lord Sko. Stay tuned for more.

Okay Kaya: It's a trippy but super chill vibe in the 'Check Your Face' music video

Feel like turning up? Want to simmer down? How about both at the same time? Look no further than crooner Okay Kaya bringing a unique, signature style to the masses courtesy of her ‘Check Your Face’ music video.

Feel like turning up? Want to simmer down? How about both at the same time? Look no further than crooner Okay Kaya bringing a unique, signature style to the masses courtesy of her ‘Check Your Face’ music video.

The song is trippy but repeat mode-worthy. Completely lose your mind to the visual and turn up.

Today, multifaceted Norwegian-American pop auteur Okay Kaya returns with her new single “Check Your Face” off her highly anticipated album, Oh My God—That’s So Me, out September 6th. Coinciding with the track is a Lou Beauchard-directed stop-motion video depicting the song’s bewildering world of emotions. To better illustrate the song’s underlying playful nature, Kaya picked out a famous quote by Australian journalist-writer Clive James: “Common sense and a sense of humor are the same thing, moving at different speeds. A sense of humor is just common sense, dancing.”

She adds, "Wrote this slacker disco song about wanting to be, if not a not a brightsider, then at least a belly laugher. Sometimes tricky to access just that bliss, but if you’re happy and you know it, check your face! It was fun and warming to make this track on the island during a frigid winter. It was a quiet time without much social stimuli. If you’re gonna dance alone in your basement, might as well make a song-to-dance match."

“Check Your Face” serves as the latest offering from the new album and joins the previously released singles “The Groke”, paired with an otherworldly visual directed by Julia Patey, and the piano-led ambiance of “Undulation Days”.

Alongside the upcoming album release, Okay Kaya will embark on her North American and Europeantour. The North American leg of the tour will kick off in New York on September 5 at Xanadu, with stops in Montreal, Toronto, Austin, and Atlanta before wrapping in Los Angeles on September 13 at Teragram Ballroom. The European and UK run will follow shortly after - full list of dates below. Tickets are on sale now at https://okay-kaya.com/.

Following sold-out shows in London and Berlin and now on the cusp of launching her fourth LP, Okay Kaya is an artist at the peak of ambivalent lyrical mastery. Known for a trademark style of songwriting that juxtaposes the unglamorousness, instinctiveness, and emotional toils of the human experience with saccharine sweet, rapturing vocal melodies, Kaya has pioneered an anti-poetic style of art that frees a generation from the weight of constant perception.

An enduring ability to connect beauty with blunt day-to-day mundanity strikes Kaya’s songwriting as a once-in-a-generation skill. On Oh My God - That’s So Me, Kaya doubles down on the self-realized nature of 2022’s SAP, with much of the composition and production being led by herself, sometimes in perfect seclusion following the move to a new island home last year. Only accessible by boat, the island created a set of limitations, from collaboration opportunities to access to mainland activities, that became a tool for creating the record. Alone time enabled her to abstract concepts of multi-platform existence and the reality of navigating the make-believe in art.

“Hold Me Down” features a skittering and sparse beat that holds its bass drops back until absolutely necessary, making each low-end hit even more rewarding. Blatt’s melodic charm is on full display on her dynamic verses and catchy hook, crafting a sticky and memorable melody well-suited to blasting out of Bluetooth speakers and car stereos. Skylar Blatt’s cool confidence permeates the track, as she flexes her drop top Bentleys while acknowledging the road that got her there. Dodging the haters and staying focused on herself, “Hold Me Down” is a song for standing on a beachfront balcony–basking in the wind and sun, and feeling every ounce of gratitude for what success may bring.

Honestly? This is 100 percent why I love Attack The Culture. Of course the Drake and Kendrick Lamar caliber artists will always get love but when you have talented artists like Joe West showing out? My goodness. This new ‘Dama Beuga’ tune goes hard and sets the stakes high.

How about the hardcore flow with a lyric video to set the tone, too? Tough. Peep the details and get caught up in the turn up vibes.

Today, rising hip-hop phenomenon, artist, and model Joe West has just dropped his latest single, “Dama Beuga,” via Akademy Records/Uptown Records/Republic Records. This track is available now on all major streaming platforms and is poised to be a defining moment in Joe West’s burgeoning career.

Listen to “DAMA BEUGA”: HERE

Joe West, the Harlem-raised recording artist of Senegalese descent, merges every aspect of his cultural background making a fun new summer anthem.  Unflinching confidence and swag pulses through his flashy lyrics about dressing fly, moving like he’s 50 Cent, and living it up with beautiful women in the club. The song title and recurring chant translates to the phrase “I want you” in Wolof, his native tongue.

As Joe West continues to rise in the music scene, “Dama Beuga” is set to further establish his reputation as an artist who seamlessly fuses different genres and cultural influences. His journey from Harlem to the international stage is a testament to his talent and relentless drive.

The track notably follows the recent banger “TOTM,” which Joe has also performed on On The Radar platform. Watch HERE. He also released “Switch” feat. A Boogie wit da Hoodie. Beyond piling up millions of streams and counting, HipHopEargasm applauded it as a “melodic masterpiece,” while 24Hip-Hop attested, “West has swiftly soared into the limelight.” Plus,“Switch” landed in the wake of “Uno. The latter notably entered daily rotation on “Fortnite Radio” where it reached an audience of 350 million registered users.

Following co-signs from the likes of A$AP Rocky and more, Joe recently supported Soulja Boy on a string of East Coast dates on the “SOULJAWORLD” Tour. He took the stage in Maine with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie.

ABOUT JOE WEST

He gained traction with the likes of the independent Wicked Kid from the West EP [2018] and Wicked Rebirth EP [2022], while 2023’s the single “I’m Him” popped off, garnering buzz. Along the way, he tallied millions of streams and earned praise from REMIXD Magazine, The Hype Magazine, and Elevator Magazine, to name a few. At the same time, he shined as a model, collaborating with everyone from Pyer Moss to Reebok. Now, he’s about to leave his imprint on the culture with a series of singles for Akademy Records/Uptown Records/Republic Records and more to come.
