"Cracc Era" finds both artists turning back the clock, as Tyler delivers the atonal synths and relentless bass that marked his horrorcore era, while Maxo tells tales from the trap: "Way before I did this rappin' I was out here jackin' n****s/I mean like jackin' was my skill, jack your pounds and jack your pills/Catch you lackin' by the hill, we jackin' n***s, Jack & Jill," he spits. Backing up Big Persona, Tyler delivers his own manifesto, in a tongue-twisting 16: "N****, two-tone two door/Watchin' Juno, you know/Who dem is when you see/N****s in them Unos," intones Tyler. "Cracc Era" is the second collaboration between Maxo Kream and Tyler, The Creator, following "Big Persona" in 2021.
"Cracc Era" is the latest song in a torrid 2024 streak by Maxo Kream, Over the summer, the Houston native teamed with Surf Gang producer Evilgiane for the spritely "Eye Know." The fast-paced single was his second acclaimed collaboration with Evilgiane, following January's "Bang The Bus," an ethereal and energetic offering that earned acclaim from Stereogum, Rap Radar, Hits DD, and more. Maxo used his music to process a loss in his family, paying tribute to his hero, his father Emekwanem Ibemakanam Ogugua Biosah Sr., aka Brandon Banks, who passed away earlier this year, in the single and music video for "No Then You a H*e," covered in Billboard, HotNewHipHop, Brooklyn Vegan, and more. He teamed up with fellow Texan That Mexican OT for "Talkin In Screw," a syrupy tribute to DJ Screw and the South Texas rap scene.
Maxo is currently putting the finishing touches on the follow-up to his acclaimed 2021 album Weight Of The World, which earned critical acclaim from Pitchfork, NPR, Complex, and many others. The album featured collaborations with heavy-hitters including Tyler, The Creator, A$AP Rocky, Don Toliver, and Freddie Gibbs, and was expanded with 2022's Weight Of The World (Deluxe), adding features from Benny The Butcher, Anderson .Paak, Babyface Ray, and more. Maxo spent 2023 releasing more fiery collaborations, including "Bonecrusher" ft. Key Glockand "Whatchamacallit" ft. Luh Tyler
Now in better mental and physical shape than ever before–Maxo has lost more than 75 pounds over several months–Maxo is ready to make a statement with his next album. A holistic effort that draws from every era of his discovery, Maxo's next album is the beginning of a new era for the Texas titan. A master of melody with a massive following in his region, Heyward, CA's Yatta Bandz always wears his heart on his sleeve. Displaying a humility uncommon in rappers of his stature, the Bay Area's best-kept secret shares "My Mistake," his new single. With a video going live at 3pm ET/12pm PT on Yatta's YouTube channel (292k subscribers), "My Mistake" is the first step on the road to Acrylic, the 22-year-old artist's next EP.
Emoting in his signature melodic flow, Yatta acknowledges his flaws and owns up to his past failures, before resolving to turn the page on the past. He gets assistance from a friend from across the Bay–San Francisco's Lil Bean–whose lamentations about street issues provide a perfect contrasts to Yatta's matters of the heart. The song arrives with a video directed by AdamKG, who films both artists at sunset as they lay their souls bare.
Born in Hayward, an East Bay city south of Oakland and north of Fremont, Yatta Bandz has quietly become one of the most popular rappers to emerge from the Bay Area this decade. The young rapper had a rough childhood, experiencing periods of homelessness during his elementary school years. He found his refuge in music, sharing freestyles to YouTube and building a following big enough to make his debut album a hit. Since releasing his debut project Perfect Storm in 2022, Yatta has generated over 480 million worldwide streams, including on hits like “Don’t Go” (40.3 million Spotify streams, 10 million YouTube views) and “Unseen Scars” (38 million Spotify streams, 6.7 million views on YouTube audio). Last year, Yatta followed up Perfect Storm with the heartfelt TUFF LUV, home to highlights like "Way Out West" and "Polaroid." A showcase for his sharp songwriting and achingly honest lyrics, TUFF LUV has racked up over 50 million streams to date across platforms.
This fall, Yatta plans to refine his sound even further with his upcoming EP, Acrylic. Painting on canvas with his earworm melodies, Yatta likens himself to a master painter, with an unlimited array of colors in his palette. With 3 million streams per week on his catalog and a work of art on the way, Yatta hopes to become the next Bay Area rapper to blow. Stay tuned for the new EP, coming soon via EMPIRE.
