Janelle Monae found her spark again during 'Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery' filming

Who couldn’t use some new Janelle Monae right about now? The powerful singer and actress recently talked about her new Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery flick going from the big screen to Netflix streaming and revealed finding the urge to put out new music in 2023.

Janelle Monae has new music brewing

Joined alongside director Rian Johnson, the duo stopped by Audacy’s V-103 to dish on a variety of topics. TO make life a little easier, peep some of the key moments from the interview below.

[11:13] Movie inspiration behind new music in 2023: “I was on a little musical drought…I got really inspired. Yes, I will say that I am excited about 2023…All around, this film, this music.”

[3:09] Johnson explained the film background: “This one’s set in Greece, this one's like a vacation mystery. Edward Norton plays this tech billionaire. He invites all his friends out to his private island for a murder mystery game, and things go very, very wrong, very quickly.”

[10:25] Johnson shared that a third movie is in the works, and he’s taking suggestions: “I’m making a third one. I’m starting to come up with it right now.”

[7:51] Monáe on playing the character Helen Brand: “In many ways, because she's a tech entrepreneur, she's a Black woman, and in that space, she has to navigate in her own way, she is the minority… She's around a lot of sharks, and if you know anything about that industry, the face of tech is not a Black woman…You have to have your things together because everybody is looking for a reason not to believe in you…This is honestly a dream role.”
