Metro Boomin: It's a 'Heroes & Villains' two-year anniversary celebration with the new 'Walk Em Down' music video

There’s plenty to celebrate these days if you’re rap hitmaker Metro Boomin. The music remains acclaimed but how about polishing off the success of 2022’s Heroes & Villains album with a celebratory ‘Walk Em Down (We Don’t Kill Civilians)’ music video?

There’s plenty to celebrate these days if you’re rap hitmaker Metro Boomin. The music remains acclaimed but how about polishing off the success of 2022’s Heroes & Villains album with a celebratory ‘Walk Em Down (Don’t Kill Civilians)’ music video?

Metro Boomin delivers a ‘Walk Em Down’ music video to celebrate two years

It’s more than just Metro on this anthem. How about getting the cameras rolling with hip-hop artists 21 Savage and Mustafa showing out? Tough.

GRAMMY®-nominated, diamond-certified producer and global superstar Metro Boomin unveiled a new music video for his hit single, "Walk Em Down (We Don’t Kill Civilians)," in celebration of the two year anniversary of his critically acclaimed, award-winning 2022 album, HEROES & VILLAINS. The cinematic visuals marked a significant milestone in the success of theHEROES & VILLAINS campaign. Recognized as one of the 25 most-streamed rap albums of all time, the album has amassed nearly 9 billion streams, with its iconic debut in the critically acclaimed Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse film soundtrack cementing its place in cultural history.

Directed by esteemed filmmaker Hidji, and produced by the talented Ceze and Ricky Zanders, the noir-style music video portrays a powerful message, addressing deeply impactful themes surrounding youth violence. Featuring artists on the track, 21 Savage andMustafa, the video employs striking imagery to explore heavy themes of pain, breaking harmful cycles, and the resilience of individuals and families affected by violence.

This has been a monumental year for Metro Boomin, as he just recently received four nominations for the 2025 GRAMMY® Awards, celebrating his chart-topping dual-album projects; ‘We Don’t Trust You’ and ‘We Still Don’t Trust You’ in collaboration with Future. Nomination categories include: Best Rap Album for ‘We Don’t Trust You’, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for “Like That”featuring Future and Kendrick Lamar, and Best Melodic Rap Performance for “We Still Don’t Trust You” featuring the Weeknd. He was also nominated for Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Album, and more for the 2024 Billboard Music Awards culminating his ongoing success for recent projects. Following his multiple GRAMMY® and BBMA nominations, Metro Boomin was featured alongside Future as GQ Hitmakers of the Year for 2024.

ABOUT FUTURE:

Rap would never sound, look, or feel the same after Future landed. If you want to know where the culture's going next, just watch and listen to the iconic Atlanta rapper, singer, and producer. He went from cooking up beats in a basement for the Dungeon Family to generational superstardom with a presence looming from the streets all the way to The Met Gala. He literally brought trap into the White House as President Barack Obama rapped along to his quintuple-platinum banger "Jumpman" (with Drake]. He has collected 3 GRAMMY® Awards, dozens of multi platinum certifications and reached rarified air as one of only a handful of rappers to achieve Diamond status for 2020's "Life Is Good" [feat. Drake], affirming him as one of the best-selling acts of all-time. Not to mention, he carved out a place in the history books as "the first artist to release two Billboard Top 200 number ones in consecutive weeks." Along the way, he adorned the covers of Billboard, Clash, GQ, Rolling Stone, The Source, XXL and more in addition to delivering show-stopping performances on Saturday Night Live and Ellen. In 2019, he garnered his first GRAMMY® Award in the category of "Best Rap Performance" for "King's Dead" alongside Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, and James Blake. Kanye West sought him out as Executive Producer on the headline-making Donda 2 in addition to appearing on two tracks. He also pulled up on Gunna's "pushin P*” with Young Thug, appearing on yet another chart-busting banger. Future looks ahead again on his ninth full-length album, I Never Liked You, in 2022.

Could you use some more Metro Boomin in your life right about now? Say less. The hip-hop hitmaker is coming through in a big way on the cover of Billboard and its Grammy Preview 2024 issue.

Metro Boomin of course is your Billboard cover star

While the issue focuses on all genres of tunes with Grammy season around the corner, the focus is on Metro and especially what he has brewing quietly heading into 2024.

Billboard announced super-producer Metro Boomin as the sole cover star for the “Grammys Preview 2024” issue.

“Without compromising his signature sound, which is characterized by eerie synth loops, 808s, soulful samples and orchestral finishes and branded by his notorious producer tags … So far, he has produced 115 Billboard Hot 100 songs, including 10 top 10 hits, among them Post Malone’s Quavo-featuring Congratulations and Future’s Mask Off, and two No. 1s, Migos’ Bad and Boujee (featuring Lil Uzi Vert) and The Weeknd’s Heartless.” - Billboard, Heran Mamo

Metro looks to close out a monumental year with the success of his second-studio album Heroes & Villains dominating the Billboard charts, his headlining Coachella performance, and the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack (+ animated film cameo!). He’s showing no signs of slowing down as we head into the latter half of the year. Recently, Metro performed at the 2023 VMAsBillboard’s R&B Hip-Hop Live Event, was named to the 2023 TIME100 NEXT List, and The Hollywood Reporter’s 25 Platinum Players in Music. Later this month, Metro will be holding a special performance with Redbull’s Symphonic Orchestra on October 26th at The Dolby Theatre, and of course, he recently announced that he’s working on a joint album with Future

Beyond the music, this year Metro has made a noticeable impact in the brand world starring in a commercial for his partnership with Budweiser for the Super BowlMLB to celebrate opening day, and Sonic for their summer drinks remix campaign alongside a selection of fellow artists, with more to come before 2023 wraps.

Additionally, in honor of his own mom and all single moms globally, he has continued his committed work with the “Single Moms are Superheroes” campaign through his Boominati Foundation and the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation.

Summer isn’t the only thing around the corner. Rap superstar producer Metro Boomin stays working and is gearing up for a massive Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack slated to drop in the coming weeks.

Metro Boomin’s new ‘Spider-Verse’ soundtrack drops June 2

Whenever Metro is involved, you know there’s some major superstar power. So of course the hype is legit for the star-studded project hitting streaming giants on June 2.

GRAMMY® Award-nominated diamond-certified superstar producer Metro Boomin has certified his legacy in the comic and film universe as it is announced he will serve as the Executive Producer of the upcoming Metro Boomin Presents Spider-Man™: Across the Spider-Verse Soundtrack from and Inspired by the Motion Picture coming on June 2, 2023. Curating a tracklist of signature Metro Boomin produced records but also recruiting additional artists, Metro has assembled a cast of musical superheroes for the upcoming soundtrack.

The soundtrack marks Metro’s first foray into film soundtracks although his love of film and comic superheroes has long been on display. Of the collaboration, Spring Aspers, President of Music, Sony Pictures said “The concept for the next installment of Miles’ story demanded a contemporary and culturally significant musical collaborator. Metro Boomin was clearly the perfect cultural voice to sculpt the musical environment to support this amazing next chapter.”

Dana Sano, EVP Film & TV Republic Records, commented: “Metro Boomin is a true visionary who continues to raise the bar. For the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack, Metro curated and delivered with fierce passion and integrity. Republic is thrilled and honored to be reteaming with the filmmakers and our amazing partners at Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group”.

A preview of one of the upcoming tracks can be heard in a Hyundai Motor and Spider-Man™: Across the Spider-Verse animated TV commercial that was released earlier this week.

Fans got their first glimpse of the soundtrack displayed on billboards throughout the desert on the way to Coachella where Metro Boomindelivered one of the festival’s most talked-about and star-studded sets.

Continuing a tradition of blockbuster soundtracks for the Spider-Verse, the record follows on the heels of 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Soundtrack from & Inspired by the Motion Picture). It notably bowed at #2 on the Billboard 200 and reached double-platinum status as the year’s biggest soundtrack album and has gone on to exceed 10 BILLION streams and is now certified 2x platinum. Not to mention, it spawned Post Malone’s “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)” [with Swae Lee], which reached 18x-platinum diamond status as “the most-certified single of all time!”

Continuing a long creative partnership with Drake, he produced Certified Lover Boy’s “Knife Talk” [feat. 21 Savage & Project Pat], debuting in the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2021.

Atlanta rap superstar Metro Boomin is keeping his mom’s memory alive. The hip-hop hitmaker has stepped up to share some super heartfelt words about his ride or die and how much she still means to him.

Metro Boomin remembers his late mom with heartfelt post

MB hit up his Instagram page and didn't hold back. Instead, Boomin dished on their time together last year and just weeks prior to her untimely death.

‘I remember Mothers Day last year we rode together to go pick up some pizza and you really admired the inside of this truck. I had told you I hadn’t really drove it in years and I felt your antennas go up. You went on about the truck some more and I told you that you could have it. You got real excited and wanted to take a picture with it when we got back. You were the QUEEN of posing for pictures and I’m sure that’s where my youngest brother gets it from. You had so much personality and charisma as well as hustle and drive as well as humility and compassion and I know that’s where I get all of that from. If I only knew You would be taken from me a few weeks later 💔 I miss everything about You and it hurts so much as I cry so much typing this. Everyday I’ve woke up for the past year is like a nightmare that’s never gon end. I Love and miss You with all my heart and every piece of my being. Gonna continue to do great things and dedicate it all back to You. I can’t stress enough for everybody to love your parents while they are here because they are the only ones we get. Happy Mothers Day to all the Queens out there and to everyone going through this day without their Queen just know you are not alone. 👸🏾💜♾️🥺💔’

Metro Boomin shares heartfelt mom text messages

Boomin hit up his Instagram page with a flurry of snapshots showing his day one’s motivational talk. Metro took things even further with his caption.

‘Mom I miss you so much I can’t do nothing but sit here and cry right now. You taught me to see the blessings no matter the circumstances and I feel so blessed right now but can’t help to feel hurt because this is the moment we have always talked about and patiently waited and prayed for. It hurts not getting your texts about all your favorite songs or how good you think I look in all the videos and pictures. You were always the proudest of all your children and have always been my #1 supporter with everything in life. Even when I was 13 sneaking staying up late on school nights to make beats and then when I would fake sleep you would just act like you didn’t know I was up. I miss your typos I miss you asking for the links to the albums and merch so you could send them out to everyone you know telling me no one could even talk to you without supporting your babies. I miss you checking me and putting me back on track if I ever went too far left. I Love You for eternity and can’t wait until I can finally be with you again. I feel so blessed right now but the moment is still so bittersweet 💔 #MyQueen#IWishYouWereHere 💜👸🏾🕊️’

Producer Metro Boomin is going for the lights, camera and action these days. The hip-hop hitmaker has shocked the world with a full-fledged Heroes & Villains short film starring some of the biggest names in Hollywood and the rap game.

Metro Boomin’s new must-see short film has arrived

Boomin’s new flick has everyone from Morgan Freeman and ‘Atlanta’ star LaKeith Stanfield to jailed rap heavyweights Young Thug and Gunna. The film comes just days before Metro releases his official album of the same name.

This week, multi-platinum record producer Metro Boomin releases Heroes & Villains, a short film featuring an elite lineup of stars including Academy Award-winning actorMorgan Freeman, Academy Award-nominated actor LaKeith Stanfield, Young Thug, and Gunna. The film comes as a lead-up to his highly anticipated second studio album Heroes & Villains, set to release this Friday, December 2nd.

The film, created by Gibson Hazard, is a sequel to his cinematic relationship with Morgan Freeman as well as a vision and continuation of his music narrative that is seen in each of his album installations. Metro, who has a deep passion for movies, wanted the film to create a cinematic listening experience for his audience as opposed to listening to an album song by song. With the help of renowned director Gibson Hazard, his ideas came to light. Hazard has been on the forefront of cinematography since his teens creating works for stars such as The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Future and Lil Uzi Vert.

It feels like forever since Boomin hit the green light on putting out a full-fledged album. How long exactly? How about four years?

Heroes & Villains will be the follow-up to Metro’s 2018 album, Not All Heroes Wear Capes, and is dedicated to the producer’s late mother Leslie Wayne. Combining his love of film and music, Metro continues to push the envelope in this short film where actor LaKeith Stanfield portrays the “New Villain in Town'' and is first seen rushing out of a station in a fire truck with flamethrowers on top. He proceeds to set Metropolis ablaze until Metro, the hero of the film, decides to intervene. Narrated by the legendary Morgan Freeman, Metro is seen as the hero rushing in to save the city while snippets from his upcoming album Heroes & Villains play as the soundtrack. Playing off Metro’s iconic producer tag, Freeman announces “You know what they say, if young Metro don’t trust you, motherf*cker, you better run!”
